Andalucia Golf Magazine has been able to confirm the sale of the Valderrama golf course plot following several months of negotiations. The situation with the club remains unchanged, as the sale only affects the ownership of the land, which has been trasnferred from Patiño to a business group. The Valderrama Golf Club, owned by 400 members, has a rental contract for the course until 2050, so the status quo will not change to any major degree.

Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., Valderrama made history by becoming the first Spanish course, and first outside Great Britain, to host the Ryder Cup – in 1997. Previously, the course had been the venue for nine editions of the Volvo Masters (a tournament which later returned to Valderrama until 2008), earning recognition from the top players and leading to its ranking as the number one course in Europe. Valderrama has also hosted two American Express World Golf Championships.
