Benahavís once again takes over centre-stage in the local culinary world in April and May with the fourth edition of Gastromía. Organised in conjunction with the Escuela de Hostelería Sabor a Málaga catering school and Daily Tourist Marbella, the annual gastronomic event is an opportunity for Benahavís restaurants to showcase their specialities.

Over the next two months, a judging panel including leading Costa del Sol food and wine critic Enrique Bellver will taste the restaurants’ entries in the 2017 competition, and from 22 to 26 May each participating restaurant will offer clients a free tasting of their star tapa or dish.

The winner’s trophy has been designed by sculptor Chico Repullo, whose grandfather was one of Pablo Picasso’s sisters, and the winner will be announced on 31 May.

During the official presentation at Benahavís Town Hall, presided over by the mayor, José Antonio Mena, Bellver encouraged restaurants from other parts of Andalucía to take part in the event, whose main objectives are to promote the diverse delights of Andalucian cuisine (“apart from traditional fried fish”) and highlight the talents of the area’s young chefs.
