Royal Guadalmina Golf Club in Marbella has been confirmed as the venue for the 2017 Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España Femenino, from 21 to 24 September. This prestigious Ladies European Tour event was held last year at Aloha Golf, in Marbella’s Nueva Andalucía “Golf Valley”, where local favourite Azahara Muñoz became the first Spanish winner in the history of the championship.

The 2017 tournament will be held on Guadalmina’s superb South Course, which like Aloha was designed by the doyen of Spanish golf course architects, Javier Arana.

Managed by Ignacio Cuvillo, Guadalmina is one of the Costa del Sol’s most popular clubs, for both visitors and members, with more than 2,000 of the latter representing around 20 different nationalities.

The South Course was inaugurated in 1959 and the North Course, also 18 holes and designed by Folco Nardi, was opened in 1973. The club’s golf amenities were complemented by a nine-hole par-three course in 1989.

Royal Guadalmina is also justifiably proud of its academy, run for five decades by club pro Francisco Hernández and since 2013 by a team of four professionals led by manager Castor Gómez López.

Junior golfers coached at the club have won numerous regional, national and European titles over the years, both amateur and professional, highlighted by Azahara Muñoz, Noemí Jiménez, Ángel Hidalgo, Rocío Sánchez Lobato, Esther and Ángel Ibáñez, Laura Cabanillas, Sergio Gutiérrez and Casto Gómez, among many others.
