The third leg of the Andalucía Golf Challenge Destination “Riviera Maya Golf Club Bahia Principe” in Mexico amateur circuit followed the same pattern as the first two. Held on the Los Lagos course at Mijas Golf, the event was another resounding success, with many golfers unable to participate because all available places had been taken up days before. Those fortunate enough to play enjoyed a superb day’s golf’s on an extraordinary course that attracted unanimous praise, for both its design and its maintenance and presentation. In fact, like its Mijas Golf “brother" (Los Olivos), Los Lagos is the work of one of the greatest golf course designers of all time, Robert Trent Jones Sr.

In addition to the prizes presented for each tournament (top-brand clothes from fairway+blue boutique, DO Somontano wines, sports equipment, etc.), the top five finishers in each category won places in the grand final of the circuit with a chance to opt for one of five trips to Riviera Maya that includes flights, hotel accommodation (in Riviera Maya Bahia Principe Resort) and golf at three extraordinary courses in the Mexican Caribbean: Riviera Maya Golf Club, El Camaleón Mayakoba (a US PGA Tour tournament venue) and Paradise Beach.

The main 2019 sponsors of the Andalucía Golf Challenge Circuit, which this year celebrates its ninth edition and is organised by Andalucía Golf magazine, are property developer Exxaxon and Reale Seguros-Galpe.

The first three top finishers at Los Lagos in category one were, in order: Antonio Javier García Frías (38 points), Francisco Javier Gil Pérez (38) and Pablo Guerrero Jaureguiza (37).

Leading the way in category two was Álvaro Pérez Cruz (46 points), followed by Antonio Fernández Martín (44) and Borja Gutiérrez Sedeño (42).

The scratch winner was Francisco Javier Carrere, with 36 points. Special prizes for closest to the pin, and men’s and women’s longest drives, went to Estefano Pastore, Juusi Harju and Daniele Lorcy, respectively.

The prize-giving ceremony was presided over by Mijas Golf director Lorenzo Pérez, Exxon head of development Gustavo Teruel,

fairway+blue director Gabriela Jones, and Andalucía Golf magazine’s Antonio Sánchez and Luis Navarro.

The event concluded with a clubhouse cocktail reception at Mijas Golf, one of the most popular and best-value golf resorts on the Costa del Sol, both for the magnificence of its courses and the excellent relationship between quality and price.

The next leg of the Andalucía Golf Challenge Destination “Riviera Maya Golf Club Bahia Principe” in Mexico circuit will be 23 June, at Santa Clara Golf Marbella. TOURNAMNENT ENTRY
