The dawn fog which hung over over Flamingos, at the Villa Padierna resort on the Costa del Sol, dissipated quickly and the sun shone splendidly for the rest of the day. This, together with the absence of wind, meant the 120 players enjoyed an excellent day of golf and a course in magnificent condition, ensuring that the ninth event of the 2029 Andalucía Golf Challenge Circuit Destination Riviera Maya Golf Club Bahía Príncipe in Mexico was a resounding success.

The general comments among participants in the tournament were very positive both in terms of the course and the service and attention received, as to be expected at a five-star resort that is considered one of the finest in Europe. The refreshment table located between holes one and 10, serving soft drinks, gazpacho, sandwiches, fruit, etc., received a great reception.

Flamingos is one of three 18-hole courses that make up Villa Padierna Golf Club. The venue for professional tournaments of outstanding international prestige (grand finale of the European Seniors Tour in 2002, 2003 and 2004, Spanish Women’s Open in 2010...), Flamingos is a course that, apart from its intrinsic quality, stands out for meticulous aesthetics that evoke Tuscany landscapes. It has a large number of different tree species and beautiful views over the Mediterranean Sea.

The same as with all the other legs of this year’s Circuit, organised by Andalucía Golf/España Golf and sponsored by Riviera Maya Bahía Príncipe, Exxacon and Reale-Galpe, available places quickly sold out and there were many players who could not tee up in the Flamingos competition. Also as is customary on the Circuit, both Spanish and foreign players gathered together in a great atmosphere of camaraderie.

In addition to the prizes presented for each tournament (top-brand clothes from fairway+blue boutique, DO Somontano wines, sports equipment, etc.), the top five finishers in each category won places in the grand final of the circuit with a chance to opt for one of five trips to Riviera Maya that includes flights, hotel accommodation (in Riviera Maya Bahia Principe Resort) and golf at three extraordinary courses in the Mexican Caribbean: Riviera Maya Golf Club, El Camaleón Mayakoba (a US PGA Tour tournament venue) and Playa Paraiso.

The top finishers at Flamingos in category one, obtaining a place for the grand final, were (in order): Santiago James Pérez Román (with 39 points), Francisco Gil García (39), Nicolás Carrasco Díaz (39), Santiago Gutiérrez Duque (38) and Fernando Ramos Oliva (38).

In category two, the five making it to the grand final were: Manuel Omar Cuevas Ruiz (47), Juan Manuel Pérez Jiménez (44) Amelia do Nascimento Figueiredo (39), Pedro Anaya de la Cámara (36) and Oliver Hubner (36).

The scratch winner was Philip Fisher (34), the special prize for nearest to the pin went to José María San-Matias, and the prizes for longest drives were won by Pilar de Hoyos and Iván Tiemblo.

The day of golf concluded on the Hotel Anantara Villa Padierna verandah-terrace, overlooking Flamingos’ eighth hole, with a superb cocktail reception, prize-giving ceremony and gifts raffle.

The next event on the Andalucía Golf Challenge Destination Riviera Maya Golf Club Bahía Principe Circuit is 24 August at La Reserva Club Sotogrande, with the grand final on 7 September at Alferini Villa Padierna.
