Andalucía’s oldest golf club, Bellavista (founded in 1916), hosted the second event of the 11th Andalucía Golf Challenge-Destination PGA Riviera Maya Bahía Príncipe Circuit. Located six kilometres from Huelva capital city, the course was set up in excellent playing conditions for players, including magnificent, top-quality Bermuda greens. The day was sunny but also windy, which made play quite complicated at times – on a course that always provides a major technical challenge. The event was also highlighted by the exceptional friendliness and professionalism of the whole team, led by Alberto Rodríguez Payno.
At the conclusion of play, the participants enjoyed a tasty paella on the clubhouse terrace, strictly following COVID protocols. (SEE PHOTO GALLERY AT THE END OF THIS REPORT.)
The scratch winner and top three finishers in each category received trophies and prizes including presentation boxes of wine from Bodegas Laus and Enate (D.O. Somontano) and a dozen Bridgestone balls from Holiday Golf Group. The closest to the pin winner was rewarded with a leg of Iberian ham from Bodega Bernardino (Aljaraque (Huelva), and there was also a raffle for gifts including balls, caps, gloves, and green fees at Bellavista y El Rompido.
Roberto Romero Moreno led the way in category one with 38 points, followed by Juan Manuel García Vega (also 38) and Alberto Luis Alfonso Álvarez (37). The top three players in category two were Manuel Jesús Godoy del Roj (39 points), Santiago Pereles Molins (37) and Francisco Sánchez Torrejón (36), while the scratch winner was Jonas Reffborn (36). Interestingly, category two’s top player, Manuel Jesús Godoy, was one of the five players in last year’s Andalucía Golf Challenge Circuit final who won trips to the Dominican Republic.
Bellavista Golf Club was the second of the 25 scheduled tournaments that will make up the 11th edition of this open amateur circuit organised by Andalucía Golf/España Golf magazine. Between March and October, the circuit is being held in the Andalucian provinces of Málaga, Cádiz, Huelva, Almería, Sevilla and Granada, as well as in Madrid and Segovia, with most of the events taking place on the Costa del Sol.
The grand finale, which will decide the five winners of trips to the Mexican Caribbean, will be held at Marbella Club Golf Resort on 2 October, followed by a gala dinner at El Gamonal Restaurant in Marbella.
Access to the final will be secured directly by the scratch winner of each tournament, while the rest of the places will be awarded based on a ranking of points obtained in each event, comprising the best six results tallied throughout the circuit schedule (no minimum number of events has to be played).
The circuit’s sponsors are Sanitas, Bahía Príncipe Golf, Bahía Príncipe Hotels & Resorts and Bahía Príncipe Residences; and the collaborators, Holiday Golf, Fairway + Blue, Bodega Laus and Marbella Town Hall. Cadena SER and Andalucía Golf/España Golf magazine are the official media.
The next events will be on 14 April at Golf Santander (Madrid) and 17 April at Los Ángeles de San Rafael (Segovia).
