It might not be the best dining option for those suffering from vertigo, or with a weak bladder, but many others will be happily queuing up this summer to savour a new culinary experience in Marbella.

Sala Group has joined forces with chef Aitor Perurena this July to launch La Sala in the Sky, a floating restaurant on a platform that takes 22 guests to a 360-degree viewing height of up to 50 metres. Guests are strapped into a leather seat that is secured to a dining table, and the seating area is connected to a crane which then acts as a lift.

The centre of the dining table has a walking platform that accommodates Aitor's professional team and La Sala’s serving staff, who prepare a five-course tasting menu with pairing wines and Champagnes.

The platform has been provided by Dinner in the Sky, a Belgian-based company that has created more than 5,000 dinner events in 40 cities around the world. Born and raised in a village near San Sebastian, Aitor Perurena shaped his skills in a diverse range of kitchens before creating his own culinary school (Espacio Gastronomico) with his wife, and later the 1870 restaurant.
