Young Spanish golfing sensation Jon Rahm has remained modest about his impressive pro debut but he has allowed himself one indulgence. Speaking in a Golf Digest podcast in the United States, where he is based, the 21-year-old revealed he had purchased a red Porsche.

“I’m not sure how much my parents like it,” he said somewhat sheepishly, according to the magazine, while also declining to reveal the model “partly out of fear of being too braggadocio”.

Rahm noted that the car was the first he’d ever bought, and symbolised all the hard work he’d put in, on and off the course, since focusing solely on golf as a teenager. “It’s good for me to see it, wake up every day and see what I’ve accomplished the last eight years.”

Rahm won just over $1 million in seven events on the 2015-16 US PGA Tour after turning pro in June; and another $96,000 this new season in one start (not to mention what are likely to be quite lucrative endorsement deals).
