Andalucía’s oldest golf club, Bellavista (founded in 1916), hosted the second event of the 11th Andalucía Golf Challenge-Destination PGA Riviera Maya Bahía Príncipe Circuit. Located six kilometres from Huelva capital city, the course was set up in excellent playing conditions for players, including magnificent, top-quality Bermuda greens. The day was sunny but also windy, which made play quite complicated at times – on a course that always provides a major technical challenge. The event was also highlighted by the exceptional friendliness and professionalism of the whole team, led by Alberto Rodríguez Payno.

At the conclusion of play, the participants enjoyed a tasty paella on the clubhouse terrace, strictly following COVID protocols. (SEE PHOTO GALLERY AT THE END OF THIS REPORT.)

The scratch winner and top three finishers in each category received trophies and prizes including presentation boxes of wine from Bodegas Laus and Enate (D.O. Somontano) and a dozen Bridgestone balls from Holiday Golf Group. The closest to the pin winner was rewarded with a leg of Iberian ham from Bodega Bernardino (Aljaraque (Huelva), and there was also a raffle for gifts including balls, caps, gloves, and green fees at Bellavista y El Rompido.

Roberto Romero Moreno led the way in category one with 38 points, followed by Juan Manuel García Vega (also 38) and Alberto Luis Alfonso Álvarez (37). The top three players in category two were Manuel Jesús Godoy del Roj (39 points), Santiago Pereles Molins (37) and Francisco Sánchez Torrejón (36), while the scratch winner was Jonas Reffborn (36). Interestingly, category two’s top player, Manuel Jesús Godoy, was one of the five players in last year’s Andalucía Golf Challenge Circuit final who won trips to the Dominican Republic.
