Zagaleta New Course made a resoundingly successful debut on the Andalucía Golf Challenge Circuit. This was evidenced first by the fact that all available places were sold out, and second by comments expressed by the participants, who universally praised the high quality and superb condition of the course. The vast majority were playing the course – the most recent of two 18-hole layouts developed at the renowned luxury resort on the Costa del Sol (in Benahavís municipality) – for the first time.

This is the 12th year of the annual circuit, which is organised by Andalucía Golf/España Golf and offers the main prize of five week-long trips to the Dominican Republic.

Pedro Merchán Fernández won category one (with 38 points), followed by Mario Castro Rodríguez (35) and Alberto Mena Castilla (34). In category two, the top three finishers were Jamie Moss (41 points), Reyes Manteca Gómez-Pallete (35) and Barbara Repossini (also 35). Scratch winner José Luis Castilla Rodríguez totalled 34 points. The prize for closest to the pin was won by Georges D'Anthés while the longest drive prizes went to Paula Martín Montero and David Carretero Castillo.

The scratch winner and top three finishers in each category received trophies and prizes including golfing apparel from the Fairway-blue boutique in Puerto Banús, cases of wine from the Enate, Lau and Sommos bodegas (D.O. Somontano), and one dozen Bridgestone balls (Tiger Woods Special Edition for the scratch winner and E6 for the other players).

The first and second category and scratch winners, who qualified directly for the grand final, were also presented with paintings by renowned artist Alejandro Hermann.

In addition, a special gifts raffle included a CaddyTalk Minimi Rangefinder – a small-sized, high-precision and image-quality laser measurement device – and three paintings by Alejandro Hermann.

The Zagaleta tournament was the 19th of nearly 30 tournaments scheduled to be held during the 12th edition of this hugely popular open amateur circuit, organised by Andalucía Golf/España Golf magazine. From February to September, the Circuit covers the Andalucian provinces of Málaga, Cádiz, Huelva, Almería, Sevilla and Granada, in addition to Madrid, Salamanca and Segovia, with most of the events being held on the Costa del Sol.

The Circuit’s grand finale, which will decide the five winners of trips to the Dominican Caribbean, will be held at La Hacienda Alcaidesa Links Golf Resort on 24 September, followed by a gala dinner at Gran Hotel Guadalpín Banús

Access to the final will be direct for the winners of each category and the leading scratch player in all the qualifying tournaments, while the rest of the places in the final will be awarded based on the Benahavís Ranking, calculated from points obtained in each leg.

The Circuit is sponsored by ThirdHome.com, MyHedgeFund.club, Turismo Costa del Sol, Benahavís Town Hall, Sanitas, PGA Ocean’s 4 Bahía Príncipe, Bahía Príncipe Golf and Bahía Príncipe Hotels & Resorts, and the main collaborators are D.O. Somontano, Holiday Golf, Holiday Golf Estates and Fairway+blue. Cadena SER and Andalucía Golf/España Golf magazine are the Circuit's official media outlets.
