Just over a year before the club hosts the 2023 Solheim Cup, Finca Cortesín once again provided a dazzling setting for participants in the Andalucía Golf Challenge Circuit. This is the 12th year of the annual circuit, which offers the main prize of five week-long trips to the Dominican Republic.

Managed by Francisco de Lancastre, designed by Cabell B. Robinson and the venue for three editions of the World Match Play Championships, this superb course was, as always, in impeccable condition for play, highlighted by spectacular greens. Those players fortunate to tee up in the tournament (all the places were sold out well in advance) enjoyed a magnificent day of golf, with some wind but pleasant temperatures.

One of the highlights was the excellent level of service provided by the renowned Costa del Sol resort, which paid meticulous attention to the smallest details to ensure players had the best experience possible. At the conclusion of play, they were also able to enjoy a fantastic cocktail reception.

The Finca Cortesín event was the 25th of nearly 30 tournaments scheduled to be held during the 12th edition of this hugely popular open amateur circuit, organised by Andalucía Golf/España Golf magazine. From February to September, the Circuit covers the Andalucian provinces of Málaga, Cádiz, Huelva, Almería, Sevilla and Granada, in addition to Madrid, Salamanca and Segovia, with most of the events being held on the Costa del Sol.

José Manuel Saiz Fernández won category one (with 37 points), followed by David Estefanell Pañella and Vicente Rodero Rodero (both 36). In category two, the top three finishers were Annabel Evans (36 points), Fernando Montero Prieto (35) and Dennis Diaconescu (also 35). Scratch winner David Doyle totalled 31 points. The prize for closest to the pin was won by Antonio Luzón Utrilla, while the longest drive prizes went to Annabel Evans and Nicolas Meixner.

The scratch winner and top three finishers in each category received trophies and prizes including golfing apparel from the Fairway-blue boutique in Puerto Banús, cases of wine from the Enate, Lau and Sommos bodegas (D.O. Somontano), and one dozen Bridgestone balls (Tiger Woods Special Edition for the scratch winner and E6 for the other players).

The first and second category and scratch winners, who qualified directly for the grand final, were also presented with paintings by renowned artist Alejandro Hermann.

In addition, a special gifts raffle included a CaddyTalk Minimi Rangefinder – a small-sized, high-precision and image-quality laser measurement device – and three paintings by Alejandro Hermann.

The Circuit’s grand finale, which will decide the five winners of trips to the Dominican Caribbean, will be held at La Hacienda Alcaidesa Links Golf Resort on 24 September, followed by a gala dinner at Gran Hotel Guadalpín Banús

Access to the final will be direct for the winners of each category and the leading scratch player in all the qualifying tournaments, while the rest of the places in the final will be awarded based on the Benahavís Ranking, calculated from points obtained in each leg.

The Circuit is sponsored by ThirdHome.com, MyHedgeFund.club, Turismo Costa del Sol, Benahavís Town Hall, Sanitas, PGA Ocean’s 4 Bahía Príncipe, Bahía Príncipe Golf and Bahía Príncipe Hotels & Resorts, and the main collaborators are D.O. Somontano, Holiday Golf, Holiday Golf Estates and Fairway+blue. Cadena SER and Andalucía Golf/España Golf magazine are the Circuit's official media outlets.

The next events will be on 3 September at Valle Guadiana (Huelva) and 10 September at Air Golf Los Ángeles de San Rafael (Segovia).
