Alferini Golf, located in the municipality of Benahavis, will open its doors at the end of November to the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España, a tournament that will close the season on the Ladies European Tour and will crown for the third consecutive year not only the champion of the tournament but also the winner of the Race to Costa del Sol. This tournament, which has become the highlight of the women’s season in Europe, has a dizzying list of winners since it became the closing event of the Race to Costa del Sol.
In the 2020 season, the Dane Emily Kristine Pedersen achieved the double -tournament and Race to Costa del Sol- to put the rubric to a spectacular year. Last season the tournament was won by Carlota Ciganda, thus achieving the only tournament she had yet to win in our country, and the order of merit was won by Thailand’s Atthaya Thitikul.
José Antonio Mena, mayor of Benahavis, host municipality of the tournament, has assured “that the best players of the year on the European circuit come to play in Benahavis, is a great decision. We, through the municipal golf school, encourage many girls to get started in this wonderful sport and, undoubtedly, this event will motivate them to continue praying it. We are going to have the opportunity to showcase our great complementary offer, based on the climate, but also on our hotels, our organisational capacity, our gastronomy, our leisure and our culture. And I have to say that we are going to do it with all the generosity that such a tournament deserves,” he concluded.
The Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España, again sponsored by the Consejería de Turismo, Regeneración, Justicia y Administración Local de la Junta de Andalucía, Turismo y Planificación Costa del Sol and Acosol, will be played at one of the jewels of Villa Padierna and signed by Cristóbal Guerrero. The Alferini Golf course is an example of the spectacular level offered by the Andalucian courses, and its manicured greens and fairways will decide the outcome of the Race to Costa del Sol 2022. As icing on the cake, the €650,000 will be distributed in the tournament as well as the bonus of €250,000 for the top three classified in the annual ranking.
“It fills us with pride and satisfaction to once again host a Ladies European Tour tournament in our facilities. In addition, now we will also see the champion of the Race To Costa del Sol crowned at Alferini Golf. This is a magnificent course that will be a great challenge for all the players, it is a challenge both for its length and its design. I am sure we are going to see a great show hosting the best players of the season. Its integration into the Costa del Sol landscape with no buildings around it makes it a unique course in the area,” explains Ricardo Arranz de Miguel, owner of Villa Padierna.
Once again this year, the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España will be a magnet for players and fans thanks to its position as the last event on the Ladies European Tour calendar, its generous prize purse that attracts the best players of the moment, and the undoubted attraction of Benahavis and its surroundings, a perfect example of what Andalucía and the Costa del Sol have to offer. The Villa Padierna complex will host the tournament for the second time after the edition played at the Flamingos course in 2010, when England’s Laura Davies won.
The Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España 2022 will be held at Alferini Golf from November 24 to 27 and is part of the Solheim Cup 2023 program, an event declared of Exceptional Public Interest (AEIP) and which provides important tax advantages to participating companies. The Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España, the last event on the Ladies European Tour calendar, is sponsored by Andalucía, Costa del Sol and Acosol as main sponsors, together with the Marbella Town Hall, Benahavís Town Hall and Reale Seguros. LET, RFEG, RFGA and Deporte & Business collaborate in its organisation.
