The Real Club de Golf Las Brisas, one of the designs that most satisfied its creator, the North American architect Robert Trent Jones, started a few months ago a program of deep reforms that, when finished, will return to this Marbella course all its original shine and perfection. These works are necessary to adapt to the new times and correct the deficiencies that the passage of time inexorably causes. <\/span><\/p>\n To build them, respecting the initial design, Las Brisas chose one of Robert Trent Jones’s most outstanding disciples, Kyle Phillips, also one of today’s most prestigious golf architects.<\/p>\n The renovation of the first nine holes has already been completed, and the renovation of the second nine holes will begin in September 2014.<\/p>\n Last summer, this first round, which has already been completed, suffered some incidents that have now been corrected.<\/p>\n Paul Mu\u00f1oz, the club’s director, explains what happened. “What happened,” he says, “is that the renovation was carried out at a time of the year that was perhaps not the most favorable. So as not to inconvenience members too much, it was decided to start the work in April, and it was completed at the end of November.<\/span> At that time there was no choice but to reseed with Ray Grass, which is a grass that only lives and is in perfect condition during the cold months. It does not tolerate heat or irrigation water with high salinity. That’s why we’ve had some problems this summer. We knew it would happen, but there was no choice but to do this. <\/span><\/p>\n In any case, it was a one-time problem that has already been solved. We have reseeded with Festuca Arundinacea and in a short time everything will be as it should be”. <\/p>\n -Maybe some people don’t have patience, but the design that has been done is there, the improvements in the irrigation are there, the bunkers, the new drains, etc. Everything is fine; the only thing that has happened is -as I said- a punctual problem with the rough that has lasted a month and a half or two. <\/p>\n -Did this influence the postponement of the reform of the second nine holes?<\/strong><\/p>\n -Exactly. We have consulted independent companies such as Surtec, Act\u00faa and the head greenkeeper of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation and they have all told us that the only viable way to rebuild and sow the right grass to last all year round is to start the work in September and to reseed during the warm months with cuttings and seeds of the appropriate species (Bermuda). <\/p>\n The course will be in perfect playing condition and in all its splendor, both for the autumn\/winter season that is now starting, when most of the members from Northern Europe arrive, and for the rest of the spring\/summer season.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The Real Club de Golf Las Brisas, one of the designs that most satisfied its creator, the North American architect Robert Trent Jones, started a few months ago a program of deep reforms that, when finished, will return to this Marbella course all its original shine and perfection.
