Who wouldn\u2019t like to win a million dollars for making a hole in one? Is there anyone who wouldn\u2019t raise their hand? Well, that illusion is what is at stake in the Million Dollar Hole In One (MDHIN), a competition that has been running for nineteen years in the United States and arrived in Europe ten years ago. The challenge began in the Canary Islands and Portugal, and then continued on the Costa Blanca, Mallorca and the Costa del Sol. <\/span><\/p>\n

Jamie O\u2019Doherty, MDHIO\u2019s regional director, has high expectations for the company\u2019s growth in this area of Andalusia. \u201cThere is no reason why the Costa del Sol is not going to grow. We\u2019ve only been here a few months and the prospects are very good,\u201d he says. <\/p>\n

The price to play the MDHIO challenge is only ten euros and that entitles \u2013 in exchange for providing name, country of origin and e-mail address \u2013 to a case of three balls and a ten percent discount voucher at the course store in question.<\/p>\n

If they manage to land and leave the ball on the green, golfers who accept the challenge on the selected par 3 can choose between different golf items, ranging from Bridgestone or Taylor Made balls to Ecco caps and visors or Callaway towels. And if they are fortunate enough to make a hole-in-one, the prize is a championship one: a trip to Las Vegas or a destination in Europe to play for the million-dollar prize if they make a hole-in-one there. <\/p>\n

For the golf courses that join MDHIO, the benefits are also interesting, since, apart from offering an optional incentive to their clients, they receive a percentage of the tickets sold. A noteworthy aspect is that MDHIN collaborates with charitable causes, whether international, national or local. <\/p>\n

Another area of MDHIO\u2019s business is advertising, which advertisers of golf-related products and services can reach the more than 90,000 golfers who receive the company\u2019s weekly newsletters. They can also advertise on the MDHIO website. <\/p>\n

Until now, the annual event where the aspirants to win the million dollars were held in Las Vegas, but in 2015 it will be held in the Portuguese Algarve, specifically in Vale do Lobo.
