Scottie Scheffler, ranked number one in the world, was stopped Friday by police for a traffic violation while trying to get around a traffic jam caused by a fatal accident in Louisville near Valhalla Golf Club, site of the PGA Championship, the second major of the season.<\/p>\n
The American player apparently did not heed the instructions of a police officer who was regulating traffic after a bus hit a pedestrian and killed him on the spot. Traffic was backed up and the world number one attempted to enter Valhalla Golf Club on a shoulder, at which point the officer ordered him to stop.
The player was unaware of the situation and his car continued to move forward a few meters from the point where the police officer ordered him to stop the vehicle. The officer opened the driver’s door and pulled Schefler’s arm to get out, then pushed him against the car and placed him in handcuffs for not obeying authority.
He was subsequently released and the mugshot with which he was booked after his arrest and the charges that officers have decided to file against him were made public: assault on an officer in the second degree, criminal mischief in the third degree, reckless driving and disobeying signals provided by officers.
