Eduardo de la Riva from Barcelona was the winner of the 2011 Peugeot Golf Tour Order of Merit.

The last round of the Peugeot Tour Gran Final began with Marc Pérez and Carlos Aguilar sharing the lead, which they maintained for the first three holes. From there Aguilar fell from the top of the leaderboard with a double bogey on hole 6, and gave way to Javier Colomo -who was one stroke behind and signed 3 birdies, an eagle and a bogey for the first 9-, Jorge Campillo, Pedro Oriol and Sebastián García, and even Borja Etchart who are in the lead with a difference of 4 strokes.

However, the Alicante native made four consecutive birdies from the 10th to the 13th hole to recover and the last six holes became a duel between Colomo and Aguilar. With a one stroke difference in favor of Colomo, and the last three holes to play, the “amen corner” of Zaudín Golf, on the 16th hole Colomo makes birdie, Aguilar double bogey and the Peugeot Tour Grand Final is sentenced: Javier Colomo wins with 12 strokes under par, and Carlos Aguilar is second with minus 9. The third position tied Pedro Oriol, Sebastián García and Pol Bech.

Eduardo de la Riva, on the other hand, is keeping his nerve and, although he is not showing his head, he is holding on to the right position to crown his first Peugeot Tour Order of Merit. He finished with 71 strokes and a total of 6 under par, in 8th place.

Javier Colomo, 27, from Extremadura, dressed in his red tie -this year he decided to start playing with a tie because, according to Cristina, his wife, “he loves them and because of his profession he does not have many opportunities to wear them”- and a black ribbon on his cap, which he has worn during the whole tournament in memory of Santiago Palacios, to whom he dedicated his victory together with his loved ones, signed his second professional victory with a card of 66 strokes (five birdies on holes 1, 4, 5, 12 and 16, eagle on 8 and bogeys on 6 and 18) and a total of 12 under par.

“This victory means a lot to me. After two years in which I had a really bad time, now I’m back to enjoying playing golf. I had been playing well for a while but things just weren’t working out. I’ve been working on small adjustments over the last two years, although I made the most aggressive swing change four years ago. I was eager to win, but I went out to play calmly, knowing that if I continued with my good golf, I could get it. I went out to enjoy myself, I didn’t let bad thoughts come into play; with the 205 meter shot to the flag on hole 8 for egale, I told myself that I deserved to win; I had several nervous moments but it wasn’t until the second shot on hole 18 that I saw myself winning.

This victory is decisive in my career, it is a very good economic incentive now that sponsorships are so bad, I only have Extremadura that unfortunately will not continue with us, and my goal is to go to the Asian tour; Cristina, my wife, supports me, and I think it is a good option as a golf professional”. After receiving a bath of cava from his friend Juan Parrón, very excited, Colomo dedicated his victory first of all to his wife, his family and his team -Kiko Luna, Oscar del Río, Paco Fernández and Carlos Rincón-, and thanked all the work done by Peugeot, Zaudín Golf and MatchGolf.

Eduardo de la Riva, number 1 in the Peugeot Golf Tour 2011

Eduardo de la Riva from Barcelona was the winner of the Order of Merit of the Peugeot Tour 2011 thanks to his second places in the Peugeot Tour Alps de España, the Peugeot Tour de Lerma and the Madrid Professional Championship, 7th in the Peugeot Open de Catalunya, and 8th in the Peugeot Tour Grand Final 2011.

“I am very happy, it is a good recognition of my season, which has been really good, the pity was not being able to finish this week. I had the tournament on track but I had three bad days and it was not possible. It has been a great year, I can’t complain. In this sport you never finish learning everything, and this year I have learned that I can be at the top in a Peugeot Tour tournament and also in the European Tour (3rd in the Madrid Masters), where you feel the pressure in a different way. I have proved to myself that I can be there, and this encourages me a lot for next year”.

Javier Colomo from Cáceres was the winner of the Peugeot Tour Grand Final golf tournament, promoted by MatchGolf and held at Zaudín Golf, after winning in a very close final with a total of 12 strokes under par; three strokes behind was Carlos Aguilar from Alicante with minus 9.
