The tournament distributed more than 6,000 euros in prizes including golf equipment (2,100) from Ping and the Triay Golf store, weekends at five-star hotels and green fees at several of the best courses on the Costa del Sol, including Valderrama.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The inaugural event of the Andaluc\u00eda Golf Challenge Circuit could not have had a more appropriate setting: the venue of the recent Volvo World Match Play Championship, Finca Cortes\u00edn. The amateurs who attended the tournament tried to emulate -saving the stratospheric distances- the best players in the world who weeks before had measured their strengths in the spectacular Volvo Championship. <\/p>\n

They did not hit drives with the power of \u00c1lvaro Quir\u00f3s, nor did they kick with the finesse of Martin Kaymer or Luke Donald, nor did they approach with the subtlety of Lee Westwood or leave the bunker with the mastery of Ian Poulter, the winner of the World Match Play Championship, but they did enjoy themselves like true champions.<\/p>\n

The weather was splendid, with a gentle breeze and bright sunshine, and the Cabell B. Robinson-designed course amazed the participants who did not know it for its quality and superb maintenance.<\/p>\n

British, Germans, Scandinavians, Spaniards …. The tournament brought together a diverse representation of nationalities, who greatly enjoyed the day’s sport. <\/p>\n

The awards ceremony, in the spectacular clubhouse of Finca Cortes\u00edn, where a magnificent cocktail was served, was presided over by the editor of Andaluc\u00eda Golf, Antonio S\u00e1nchez, and the general manager of Finca Cortes\u00edn Golf Club, Javier Reviriego.<\/p>\n

Among the winners in the different categories was the very young Jimena Seara Prieto, handicap 17, who won the second category with 42 points, five points ahead of the second classified, Javier Burgu\u00e9s. Third place went to Des Cullum. <\/p>\n

In the first category, Will Ashdown won, handicap 8, with 32 points. Second place, with 31 points, went to Eugenio Reviriego Benito, and third, with 29, to Pete Skidmore. The prize for the ball closest to the flag was won by Jimena Seara, while the prize for the longest drive went to Ana Mar\u00eda Ruiz-Jarabe and Richard Riley. <\/p>\n

The tournament stood out, apart from the setting of the competition, for the quality of the prizes, which together exceeded the amount of 6,000 euros. The trophies, made of methacrylate, stood out for their elegance. <\/p>\n

The first three classified in each category received, apart from the corresponding trophies, vouchers of 400, 250 and 100 euros to purchase PING golf equipment plus a weekend for two people at the Meli\u00e1 Sancti Petri hotel, five stars luxury, and green fees at the La Estancia course, near the aforementioned hotel on the coast of C\u00e1diz.<\/p>\n

Both the best male and female drive and the best approach were awarded with dinners at the Casino Marbella plus 100 euro vouchers to be redeemed at the Triay Golf store in Marbella.<\/p>\n

The raffle held among the participants of the tournament after the awards ceremony also distributed important gifts, such as a stay for two people with golf and all inclusive at the Fairplay Hotel in Benalup Golf, valued at more than one thousand euros, and vouchers for two green fees at Valderrama, Aloha, La Reserva, Almenara, San Roque Club, Flamingos, Santana, Guadalmina, La Quinta and El Chaparral.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Next Andaluc\u00eda Golf Challenge tournament<\/h3>\n
