He was also the initiator and creator of the Andalusian Golf League.

The president of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation, Ángel de la Riva, and Miguel Navarro, secretary general and manager of the entity, attended the tribute and, on behalf of the RFGA, also presented a plaque to García Agüera in appreciation of his longstanding work and selfless dedication to Andalusian golf.

Agustin has been captain at Los Arqueros from 1995 to 2011, becoming president of the Competition Committee to give way to other members to be captains in the last three years. A total of 19 years at the foot of the cannon watching over the activity of the club’s competitions and the club’s relations with the Andalusian and Spanish Golf Federations, performing in these years much of this work alone. García Agüera fit perfectly into the idiosyncrasies of a multicultural club like Los Arqueros because he is Spanish, has lived in England for many years and is married to a British woman. “An important task for which the club will be eternally grateful,” says Los Arqueros director Ulf Svendsen.

Before Los Arqueros, he was also captain for almost 20 years at the mythical and almost secret golf course of the Rota Naval Base. Specifically, between 1975 and 1995. As an employee and officer of the Naval Base (EA7, equivalent to lieutenant commander), he was the first Spaniard to play it. The golf course was founded in 1953 when the Americans built their military naval base there, which had more than 15,000 American soldiers.

Photo: From left to right, the current captain of the club, Ian Conquest, the president of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation, Ángel de la Riva, the honoree Agustín García Agüera, the director of Los Arqueros, Ulf Svendsen, the general secretary and manager of the RFGA, Miguel Navarro, and the greenkeeper of Los Arqueros, José Antonio García Doña.

Los Arqueros Golf Club (Costa del Sol) recently paid an emotional tribute to its captain for almost the last two decades, Agustín García Agüera. “For his career, dedication and commitment to golf in Andalusia and especially in Los Arqueros”, this club has named him honorary captain.
