The Ryder Cup is pure theater and the players are its stars, and there is no doubt that Rome is a magnificent setting for it. We have plans for development within the European Tour and Italy shares that ambition.”

Gonzaga Escauriaza, President of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, stated that “we are convinced that PGA Catalunya Resort would have been a magnificent venue to host the Ryder Cup in 2022, but unfortunately our wish has not come true. I honestly believe our Bid was excellent and we are proud of the work done by all parties involved. Congratulations to Italy for the nomination. I have no doubt they will host a fantastic tournament.

The President of the RFEG adds that, despite the disappointment, “I want to highlight the contribution made for more than a year by all the people involved in the project, with special mention for all the institutions and the whole of Spanish golf, which on so many occasions has expressed its support during this long period of time. I know that Ryder Cup Europe’s decision has been very complicated, but I am also convinced that Costa Brava – Barcelona met all the requirements for the 2022 Ryder Cup to have been a complete success.

Ryder Cup Europe has chosen Italy’s bid to host the 2022 Ryder Cup, a biennial tournament that pits a team from Europe against a team from the United States in one of the world’s most high-profile sporting events, culminating a selection process that has involved, in addition to the Italian bid, Germany, Austria and Spain.
