The Norwegian golfer has won in the Cadiz resort of Alcaidesa with a total of 209 strokes, after signing a splendid round of 69 in the last and final day held in full on the Heathland course. The champion has been the only one who has been able to go below 70 strokes on the last day.

Johansen has won the tournament with authority, four strokes ahead of Santiago Tarrío, leader after the second round, and Carlos Balmaseda. Also finishing under par were Daniel and Juan Carlos Osorio, Marcos Pastor and William Nygard, the tournament leader after the first 18 holes.

Johansen is another big winner for the Gecko Tour. As it happened in the cases of Manuel Quirós or Mark Tullo, to mention the most recent winners of the Gecko, the Nordic golfer has played during several seasons in the European Tour. In fact, he has played a total of 77 tournaments in the top elite, with an eighth place in the Africa Open in 2011 as his best result. He has also made a career on the Challenge Tour, where he has played more than forty tournaments, adding four top ten finishes, including a second and a third place in 2008, when he finished in the top sixty of the ranking. Johansen is 33 years old and is based in Stavanger, although he was born in California, United States. He also has two wins on the Nordic circuit and already knew what it was like to win at the Gecko. In fact, last year he fought until the end for the victory in the order of merit.

Johansen said after the awards ceremony that “I am very happy for the victory. I had a great time during the three days, although today was a bit hard because of the wind and the cold. I always hope to win when I start a tournament and today was no less. The birdies I made made it easier for me”. The Norwegian golfer, who lives in Andalusia, also admitted that “I have played many times in Alcaidesa, I know the course well and that has helped me compared to others. It is an interesting course”. Finally, he pointed out that “I am very proud to have four wins already at the Gecko. I hope to have more wins before the end. I will fight for the order of merit until March and then I will play the Challenge Tour”.

The Links and Heathland courses at Alcaidesa were the setting for this seventh round of the Gecko. The two courses have been excellently presented and the players have highlighted their maintenance. It has been a tough test for everyone, in fact the cut with the top twenty and tied was established on the second day at a score of +3. Demanding.

The tournament has also served for Marcos Pastor to increase a little more his advantage in the order of merit of the circuit. The Cordovan has finished in sixth place, while Manuel Quirós, second classified and the only one who can still snatch the first position before the end of the year, has had a bad day and has finished with +4 in fifteenth place. Even so, there is still some work to do to decide the winter champion.

The next Gecko event will take place at Mijas Golf Club (Los Lagos and Los Olivos), from the 14th to the 16th of December. It will be the farewell of the year of the best winter circuit in Europe.

Eirik Tage Johansen has won the penultimate round of the Gecko Tour before the Christmas break.
