Rafael Nadal and Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Olaz\u00e1bal have decided to join forces to support refugees and children and young people at risk of social exclusion through an initiative now in its third year, the Olaz\u00e1bal&Nadal Invitational by Pula Golf Resort, a competition whose proceeds will go towards improving the lives of these people.<\/p>\n
Both elite athletes will challenge each other on the green in a tournament that will also have the support, in the kitchen, of international chefs, such as Las Vegas chef Juli\u00e1n Serrano, and Mallorcan chefs Macarena de Castro and Santi Taura.<\/p>\n
The tournament, pro-am, will be the scene of play of great figures of world golf, also united to this charitable cause, which will support the projects developed by the Rafa Nadal Foundation www.fundacionrafanadal.org, and Sport Mundi, www.sport-mundi.org, of Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Olaz\u00e1bal.<\/p>\n
The entities presided over by the two Prince of Asturias Awards have a common goal: to fight against social exclusion and help the most disadvantaged people or those with some kind of disability. The tennis player’s Foundation will allocate the funds to the Rafa Nadal Foundation Center, the organization’s first own project, which offers education and transmission of values through sports practice to children and young people from Palma de Mallorca who live in socially disadvantaged situations. In the case of the Basque golfer’s foundation, it will support the activities being carried out by Caritas, both in Spain and in Syria, Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon, to assist refugees with emergency aid. <\/p>\n
In the past editions, the support received by the two athletes has allowed the implementation of projects of social interest, aid for research into rare diseases, or dining room scholarships for children (EDUCO project of Sport Mundi, which allowed the distribution of more than 16,000 meals in canteens throughout Spain), the implementation in a new center of the Rafa Nadal Foundation’s More than Tennis project aimed at young people with intellectual disabilities, or the start-up of the Rafa Nadal Foundation Center.<\/p>\n
The competition will take place at Pula Golf Resort, the well-known course designed by Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Olaz\u00e1bal, in the place where Rafael Nadal was born. The two athletes, along with national and international players and amateurs, will once again show their best game in favor of those who need it most.The Olazabal & Nadal Invitational is possible thanks to the collaboration of OHL, Stheby’s, Cap Vermel, Nike Golf, Bator Tabor Foundation, ILC, NCM Network, Still Hoteles, Iberia Express and Bodegas Vi\u00f1a Mayor.
