Tiger Woods has written to a young fan who is intimidated by his stutter and, to console him, said, “I know what it feels like to be different.”<\/p>\n

The 39-year-old former world number one has revealed to the teenager, named Dillon, that he too had a stutter as a child.<\/p>\n

Woods said he was “proud” of the boy and urged him to “keep fighting.”<\/p>\n

The 14-time winner learned about the child’s condition from Swedish professional golfer Sophie Gustafson, who suffers from a severe stutter.<\/p>\n

Gustafson, who mentors the boy, had contacted U.S. golf journalist Ron Sirak for help and passed along e-mails from Dillon’s mother about the situation. Sirak said he was going to contact Woods, who then wrote to Dillon. <\/p>\n

“I know what it’s like to be different and that sometimes you don’t fit in,” Woods wrote.<\/p>\n

“I also stuttered as a child and I liked to talk to my dog and he would sit and listen to me until he fell asleep.”<\/p>\n

Gustafson, through a tweet, thanked the Californian for the gesture: “Thank you so much to Tiger Woods for the letter he sent to my friend Dillon. He was so happy. He’s framing it to put on the wall.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
