In a statement, the Australian says his decision is the result of a &#8220;busy playing schedule around the time of the Olympics and other commitments, both personal and professional.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>For months, Scott, winner of the Masters at Augusta in 2000, has been indifferent about golf&#8217;s inclusion in the Olympics, repeatedly stating that he was going to focus more on trying to win a major than a gold medal.<\/p>\n<p>Scott is the second player to announce that he will not participate in the Games. The first was Fiji&#8217;s Vijay Singh, also an Augusta Masters winner. <\/p>\n<p>Scott&#8217;s place on the Australian team will presumably be taken by Marc Leishman , number 33 in the Olympic scoring rankings, but even Leishman&#8217;s participation is an uncertainty, as his wife is recovering from a series of serious infections she suffered last year and it is not known how long her recovery will last.<\/p>\n<p>The one who has so far adjusted his competition schedule to participate in the Olympics is his compatriot and current world number one, Jason Day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Adam Scott is the second well-known name to announce that he will not participate in the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
