The first course of the Campo de Gibraltar resort, designed by Dave Thomas and which in 2005 hosted the Open de España, a European Tour tournament that the following year was played at the New Course of San Roque Club, presented splendid conditions for playability. The tournament was a success in terms of participation, with more than 100 players taking part.

As regards the sporting results, in the first category, the victory went to Carlos Rives Ruiz-Tapiador, with 42 points. Second place, with 39 points, went to Iñigo Capell Arrieta, and third place, with the same score, went to Juan Carlos Vara de la Fuente.

In the second category, Thomas Holden won with 45 points. Nigel Birrell came second, with the same score, while third place went to José Lázaro López Carrillo, who totaled 37 points.

The scratch champion was Miguel Villaescusa Manrique, followed by David Steele and Carlos Olaso Echevarría. Steele is a former European Tour player who was once on the verge of setting a new world record for the most holes played in 24 consecutive hours. He did it, for charity purposes in favor of the fight against cancer in a test organized by Andalucía Golf, in Marbella’s Dama de Noche thanks to the artificial lighting of the course. Villaescusa was awarded with a painting of the renowned painter Alejandro Hermann, based in Marbella, where he has his studio and art gallery.

The special prizes went to David Holden (closest ball to flag), Concha Núñez Paya (longest drive ladies) and Iván Mestre Santos-Suárez (longest drive gentlemen).

The competition distributed important prizes for the first three classified in each category, provided by TomTom, fairways+blue, Holiday Golf and D.O. Somontano, as well as for the winners of the special prizes. All participants were given a bottle of Rueda Verdejo 2009 white wine from Hacienda Montecorto, distributed by Bodegas Álvaro Domecq. The raffle also distributed numerous gifts.

The awards ceremony was presided over by the editors of Andalucía Golf/España Golf, Antonio Sánchez and Stefan Tjellander, who were assisted by the Director of Marketing and Operations of San Roque Club, Lidia Muñoz.

The next appointment of the Andalucía Golf Challenge Circuit 2016 is on September 25 at the South Course of the Real Club de Golf Guadalmina.
