 The look on Tom Kite and David Duval’s faces when they found out that a college amateur had stolen the course record from one of the most acclaimed clubs in the world, Pebble Beach. The lucky man is a Texas Tech student named Hurly Long and he accomplished his feat this weekend during a competition, the Carmel Cup, while representing his college team.  <\/p>\n

The college junior achieved his exceptional record on Saturday when he shot 61 strokes in the second round of the tournament. His 11 under par included a 15-yard birdie on the par-3 17 and another birdie from four yards out on the par-5 18, a shot that put him one stroke ahead of the record previously held by Kite and Duval. <\/p>\n

“It’s very surreal,” Long told PebbleBeach.com. “It’s taken me a while to come to grips with what I’ve done. Pebble Beach is a special place. I was talking about it with my teammates: where else in the world would you want to hold the course record? Maybe at Augusta National? It’s a huge, huge honor.” <\/p>\n

Interestingly, this new course record coincided with a visit to Pebble Beach by the co-publisher of Andaluc\u00eda Golf\/Espa\u00f1a Golf and general manager of Holiday Golf, Stefan Tjellander.<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
