With the latest additions of Real Club El Candado (Malaga) and Montecastillo Golf (Jerez), there are now 35 federated golf courses throughout Andalusia that have joined this initiative, which was born in early July at the proposal of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation, and aims to give children and young people the opportunity to enjoy the sport of golf during the summer vacations, with the best conditions.

In short, the program establishes a series of minimums, which the fields can improve or specify. Thus, the green fee for players federated by the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation up to 13 years of age (included) will be free, at least, during the vacation months, and provided that children are accompanied by an adult, who will pay green fees.

As for players between 14 and 25 years of age (included), the courses under the agreement will charge a maximum of 25 euros for 18 holes in the same period.

Below is a list of the 35 courses that have so far joined the agreement. They are truly responsible for the success it is having, and for that reason we can only thank them for the commitment that, once again, they are showing to grassroots sport and their efforts to ensure the future and growth of golf,” explains Pablo Mansilla, president of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation.

As he adds, and as stated in the agreement to which more than thirty golf courses have already adhered, this project was born at the proposal of the RFGA Promotion Committee -and especially with the support of its president, Carlos Pitarch- with the aim of avoiding the loss of a golf generation, the one between 18 and 30 years old . “It is very normal that children, golf players, stop going to the course when they start college, largely due to lack of economic resources, and do not remember it until they are of a certain age. This program aims to make it easier and more economical for them to continue playing golf, at least during the vacation season,” he continues.

It is typical that players who started playing golf during their childhood and adolescence abandon it during their university years due to lack of economic resources and do not remember it again until they reach a certain age, when they have started their sporting decline in other disciplines (soccer, basketball, rugby, surfing, athletics, etc.).

Thus, with this new initiative, the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation and the federated golf courses that have joined it, are once again committed to promoting the sport among the youngest players as the best way to ensure the future of the sport.

For his part, Carlos Pitarch explains that the agreement establishes a series of minimums that the courses can improve or limit. “In fact,” comments the president of the Promotion Committee of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation, “there have been several courses that have extended it in one way or another for the benefit of the players.” He is also very satisfied with the fact that, thanks to the excellent response from the courses, golfers have golf courses available to play with these special conditions in each of the eight Andalusian provinces.

Key Support from Golf Clubs

“We are delighted with the response to this programme among clubs registered with the federation,” said Pablo Mansilla, president of the Royal Andalucian Golf Federation. “They are truly the ones responsible for its success, and we are hugely appreciative of their continuing commitment to the youth system and their efforts in guaranteeing the future and growth of golf.

As outlined in the agreement signed with more than 30 clubs, the project was initially proposed by the federation’s promotion committee – especially with the support of its president, Carlos Pitarch – with the objective of stemming the loss of a generation of golfers: that is, those aged between 18 and 30 years. “It’s very common for young golfers to stop playing when they go to university, mainly because of lack of financial resources, and they are often forgotten until reaching a certain age. The aim of this project is to make it easier and cheaper for them to continue playing golf, at last during the holiday periods.”

To that end, this initiative by the Royal Analucian Golf Federation, and the registered clubs taking part, highlights the fact that an ongoing commitment to promoting golf among young players is the best way to guarantee the sport’s future.

According to Carlos Pitarch, the agreement establishes a series of basic conditions that the clubs can expand or limit. In fact, he notes, several clubs have enhanced the benefits to players in one way or another”. He added that he was extremely satisfied that, thanks to the clubs’ excellent response, players are able to play under these special conditions in each of Andalucía’s eight provinces.

Twelve courses in Malaga, five in Huelva, six in Cadiz, four in Almeria, four in Seville, two in Cordoba, one in Granada and one in Jaen make up the offer of clubs subscribed to the Young Golf Program of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation, and are largely responsible for its success.
