The boy from Barrika has started strong, very strong. Jon Rahm shares the lead  in the first round of the World Championships in Mexico, after a first round of 67 strokes, 4 under par. With the same result as the 22-year-old Biscayan, the second round will start today at the Chapultepec course Ross Fisher, Jimmy Walker, Phil Mickelson, Ryan Moore and Lee Westwood. <\/p>\n

Rahm, 38th in the world ranking, recorded a round of five birdies, one of them on the last hole, and a single bogey.<\/p>\n

Of the other three Spaniards in play, Sergio Garcia, tenth in the world ranking, was the best and is placed seventh thanks to his 68 strokes, in a round free of bogeys . Rafael Cabrera-Bello, with 72 strokes is 41st, and Pablo Larrazabal, with one more stroke, is 47th.<\/p>\n

The tournament is going well for the Europeans, who occupy six of the top ten places in the standings after the first round.<\/p>\n

In this WGC Mexico Championship, 49 of the top 50 players in the world ranking have gathered. Only Jason Day, number 2 in the ranking, is missing due to flu. <\/p>\n

The bettors give as favorite the current world number one, Dustin Johnson, followed by Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy. Rahm is ninth in the bettors’ preferences and Sergio, tenth. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
