It is enough to look at the handicap cut in each of the tests (3.8 for women and 0.5 for men) to get an idea of the high level that we can enjoy this week, from 9 to 12 January, in the emblematic courses of Costa del Sol.

Each of the two events will have a total of 84 participants, although the number of registered players has been much higher, which shows the great attractiveness of the competition. The Real Club de Golf Guadalmina will host the women’s event -after five years hosting the men’s- while Atalaya Golf will host the boys on this occasion.

The list of winners of the tournament is more than brilliant. In the men’s event, players such as Carlos Pigem, Pedro Erice, Manuel Couto, Juan Francisco Sarasti, Víctor Pastor, Jordi Flotats, Adriá Arnaus, Pep Anglés, Marcus Svensson, and Ángel Hidalgo, who won the title last year, the last of his amateur career, have won.

For this new edition, the names of the Andalusians Víctor Pastor and Enrique Marín are among the favorites. Both head the list of Andalusian participants in the competition with the lowest handicap, but we will also have to be very attentive to other Andalusian federates, such as Pablo Rodríguez-Tabernero from Seville or the local Álvaro Mueller. In total, there are 21 Andalusians who will fight for victory in the event.

The tournament is played over 72 holes Stroke Play in four consecutive days, 18 holes each day. The last day will be played only by the 50 best classified and equal in this position. The tournament is valid for the Boy National Ranking and the World Ranking.

As for the girls, a successor is being sought for the Catalan Laura Pasalodos. If the men’s record is impressive, the women’s is no less so. In addition to the reigning champion, Ivon Reijers won in 2017 and María Parra took the win in 2016 and 2015, before making the leap to the professional world. In addition, Ana Pelaéz and Nuria Iturrios have won this event. Precisely Ana Pelaéz is one of the favorites to win, with the lowest handicap among the Spanish players (-3.3) and equal with the also Andalusian Marina Escobar. Valentina Albertazzi, Marta Lopez or Tere Toscano will also have to watch closely. In total, 24 Andalusian federations will be looking for victory this week in Guadalmina.

The women’s tournament will also be played over 72 holes – Stroke Play – in four consecutive days, 18 holes each day. At the end of the third day, a cut will be established for the first 50 and the tied 50. It is also valid for the World Ranking, as well as for the Absolute, Girl and Cadet Women’s National Rankings.

One more year, the Andalusia Cup inaugurates the great amateur competition in Spain and will do it again, as in its last editions, at the Real Club de Golf Guadalmina and Atalaya Golf, where the great promises of the national and international golf scene will meet.
