{"id":21773,"date":"2017-11-27T10:38:46","date_gmt":"2017-11-27T10:38:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/andaluciagolf.com\/tiger-the-king-of-earnings-per-stroke-in-a-season-4191\/"},"modified":"2017-11-27T10:38:46","modified_gmt":"2017-11-27T10:38:46","slug":"tiger-the-king-of-earnings-per-stroke-in-a-season-4191","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/andaluciagolf.com\/en\/tiger-the-king-of-earnings-per-stroke-in-a-season-4191\/","title":{"rendered":"Tiger, the king of earnings per stroke in a season: $4,191!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-7680\" src=\"https:\/\/andaluciagolf.holaincompany.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/images_Jugadores_Tiger-Money.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"874\" height=\"583\" srcset=\"https:\/\/andaluciagolf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/images_Jugadores_Tiger-Money.jpg 874w, https:\/\/andaluciagolf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/images_Jugadores_Tiger-Money-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/andaluciagolf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/images_Jugadores_Tiger-Money-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/andaluciagolf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/images_Jugadores_Tiger-Money-550x367.jpg 550w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 874px) 100vw, 874px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The millions of dollars earned by top players around the world have been well documented in recent weeks with the end of the official seasons of\u00a0the major circuits\u00a0for another year.\u00a0A total of 146 players earned at least\u00a0 $1 million in prize money during the 2016-17 season between the PGA Tour and European Tour, to which must be added 17 players\u00a0from the\u00a0LPGA Tour.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to earnings over his entire\u00a0career, Tiger Woods still leads that ranking despite not having won any prize money since 2016: more than $110 million over the past two decades (Phil Mickelson is a distant second with just over $84 million).<\/p>\n<p>For a statistician, however, there is an even more enlightening figure.\u00a0With plenty of spare time on his hands, David McSweeney, creator of the advice website noobnoom.com, decided to calculate how much Woods and the current top 10 in the world rankings earn per\u00a0stroke\u00a0during their PGA Tour careers.<\/p>\n<p>Of the latter, Jordan Spieth (who already\u00a0has earned\u00a0more than 35 million dollars on the PGA Tour in his short career) leads\u00a0this peculiar ranking\u00a0with 1.104 per stroke, followed by Rory McIlroy (1 million more than Spieth in prize money\u00a0in his\u00a0career\u00a0on the\u00a0US Tour) with 1.073, Jon Rahm (875), Dustin Johnson (859), Hideki Matsuyama (775), Justin Thomas (749), Henrik Stenson (631), Brooks Koepka (629), Rickie Fowler (584) and Justin Rose (538).<\/p>\n<p>Five of them (Johnson, Thomas, Rahm, Matsuyama and Koepka) had their highest average money per\u00a0stroke\u00a0in 2017; while Spieth had his highest average ($1,897) during the 2015 campaign (when he won two majors). McIlroy had the highest individual season of anyone on the list in 2012 when he earned 2,140 per\u00a0stroke. <\/p>\n<p>What about Tiger? According to McSweeney, despite starting his career before the era of $1 million winner\u2019s checks, Woods has earned 1,282 for every shot he has\u00a0hit\u00a0in an official PGA Tour\u00a0tournament\u00a0during his 21-year career.
