American Tadd Fujikawa has become the first PGA Tour player to confess his homosexuality, according to the official website of the U.S. men\u2019s professional tour.
The 27-year-old Japanese-born golfer, born in Honolulu (Hawaii, United States), announced this week on his Instagram social network account that he was gay and explained that he had made the decision to go public in the hope of \u201cbecoming an inspiration\u201d in someone\u2019s life.
Fujikawa, the first male professional golfer to acknowledge his homosexuality, wrote a lengthy Instagram post about it.
\u201cSo\u2026 I\u2019m gay. Many of you already knew that. I don\u2019t expect everyone to understand or accept me. But be kind enough not to push your beliefs on me or anyone in the LGBT community. I hope this post inspires each and every one of you to be more empathetic and loving to each other.\u201d
\u201cI was thinking for a while about talking about my sexuality. I thought I didn\u2019t have to say it because people didn\u2019t have to know. But I remember how much the stories of others in my most difficult times have helped me to have hope.\u201d
Despite playing only fourteen PGA Tour tournaments and five on the Web.com Tour, Fujikawa is the third youngest golfer to make the cut on the PGA Tour. He did so as a 16-year-old at the 2007 Sony Open, and at the time was the second youngest. He also qualified for the 2006 U.S. Open when he was just 15.
Fujikawa has changed tours in recent years, most recently playing on the Mackenzie Tour. His last PGA Tour tournament was in 2017 at the Sony Open, where he missed the cut after two rounds of 73. He won the Hawaiian State Open at the end of 2017 . <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
