He&#8217;s used to going out on the course several times a week and his name is C.D. Madsen. Well, actually his name is Carroll Dwight, but since the former name sounds feminine to him (it&#8217;s used for both genders) he prefers to be called by his initials. The handsome gentleman is 100 years old, is American and lives in the town of Novato, California.   <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Madsen takes his clubs out to work four times a week at Martin Country Club, and says golf is a big reason he&#8217;s still going strong.<\/span><span>&#8220;I want to burn out, not rust out,&#8221; he said in an interview with CBS Television Network.<span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This long-lived golfer began his love affair with golf 55 years ago.<span> <\/span>He took a lesson and was surprised at how well he did on his first try. Eventually he went on to have an 11 handicap. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Originally from Minnesota, Madsen moved to Sausalito in 1924 before the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges were erected.<span> He is a<\/span>veteran of World War II and worked for a quarter century as a contractor.<span> <\/span>He was married and has one son.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span>His<\/span>initials CD are engraved on a plaque near the 16th hole<span> of the Martin Country Club to commemorate the<\/span><\/span><span>  the only hole-in-one he has ever made in his life. And he did it at the age of 99! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>&#8220;It&#8217;s a miracle the damn ball went in the hole,&#8221; Madsen, who holed a 6-iron from 108 yards, commented at the time.<span> <\/span>&#8220;I was surprised, and everyone else was surprised, too.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Madsen attributes it to luck, not skill.<span> <\/span>He is convinced that the same luck saved his life four days before his 100th birthday when he fell and hit his head, suffering a hematoma.<span> <\/span><\/span><span>birthday when he fell and hit his head, suffering a hematoma.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Madsen says he was routinely playing below 100 strokes before his fall, but after he got out of the hospital his game has suffered a bit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>&#8220;I do about 100 now,&#8221; he noted with a little disappointment in his voice.<\/span><\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>He is probably the only centenarian who regularly plays 18-hole rounds of golf.
