The fifth round of the Andaluc\u00eda Golf Challenge Destino Circuit \u201cLa Romana Golf Club Bah\u00eda Pr\u00edncipe\u201d in the Dominican Republic was played on Saturday July 28 at another of Sotogrande\u2019s magnificent courses: La Reserva Club, a course that, although relatively new, has already become the object of desire of all golf enthusiasts looking for unique experiences. It is a must-visit course for all players who come to southern Spain and wish to play on the best in Europe. <\/p>\n It was designed in 2003 by the American architect Cabell B. Robinson, one of the favorite disciples of the legendary designer Robert Trent Jones, who has been living on the Costa del Sol for more than thirty years. Robinson, following the philosophy of his master, created wide and straightforward fairways leading to gently undulating but challenging greens. <\/p>\n During the Andaluc\u00eda Golf tournament, the greens were especially fast and in perfect condition, as was the entire course. They reminded us, as more than one player pointed out, of those at Augusta National. <\/p>\n The day for the tournament was perfect, with a light breeze that softened the temperature, which did not much exceed thirty degrees.<\/p>\n We were honored to be joined by three-time world champion, Ryder Cup player, and Spanish golf legend, Manuel Pi\u00f1ero, who, in addition to sharing the day with us, took pictures with many of the tournament participants who asked him to do so. Pi\u00f1ero has become a kind of godfather of our tournaments when we are at La Reserva Club, which, of course, we are very grateful to him. <\/p>\n As usual, players from all over Andalusia: Huelva, Almeria, Seville, Cordoba, Malaga, etc., and from countries such as Sweden, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Switzerland, etc., attended this fifth round of our Circuit.<\/p>\n The prizes for the tournament, top brand golf clothing and equipment, were provided by the store located in Puerto Ban\u00fas Fairway and Blue and by Holiday Golf. Also the D. O. Somontano provided us with a selection of high quality wines. <\/p>\n The first five classified in each category obtained a place to play the grand final of the Circuit to be played at RCG Guadalmina (Campo Sur) on September 30, where the five trips to the Dominican Republic will be decided.<\/p>\n The prize consists of a week at the Bahia Principe Bouganville Hotel (five stars) all inclusive, flight and four rounds of golf (two at La Romana Golf Club, one at Punta Espada (Cap Cana) and one at Diente de Perro (Casa de Campo).<\/p>\n The first classified in La Reserva Club in the first category were, in this order: Alberto Jim\u00e9nez Men\u00e9ndez, first with 41 points; Thomas Doyle, in second position with 39; Oscar Mart\u00ednez Carballo with 37 points obtained the third position; Brian Moss, with 36 the fourth, and Peter Browall with 35 the fifth.<\/p>\n In the second category, the five who qualified for the final were Pedro D\u00edaz Burlo, who came in first place with 39 points. In second place, with 36, was Javier Burgu\u00e9s Hoyos. Third place went to Martin Malone, also with 36 points, but with a higher handicap. Fourth place went to Manuel Garc\u00eda Merina, with 35 points; and fifth place went to Antonio Capasso with 33 points. <\/p>\n As for the special awards, the Closest Ball was won by Donald Gustavson, who had won the longest drive at Valderrama a few days earlier; the Longest Drive for Ladies went to Yulia Golubeva; and the Longest Drive for Gentlemen was won by Carlos Mena Quero, with an impressive shot that will remain in the annals of that course and of our circuit. Not even Jon Rahm hits like that. The expression: what an animal! was the most used by those who witnessed the feat. <\/p>\n The Scrach winner was Alberto Jim\u00e9nez Men\u00e9ndez, who had also achieved the first position in the first category. In addition to the trophy that accredits him, Alberto had as a special prize a magnificent painting of the prestigious painter based in Marbella, Alejandro Hermann. <\/p>\n As usual, after the round of play, the sports day concluded with the awarding of prizes and a cocktail\/lunch on one of the terraces of the large Club House of La Reserva Club.<\/span><\/p>\n The next appointments of the Andaluc\u00eda Golf Challenge 2018 Destino \u2018La Romana Golf club Bah\u00eda Principe\u2019in Dominican Republic are the following: August 18 in Los Flamingos (Villapadierna); August 25 in Valle Romano (Estepona) and September 15 in San Roque Club (Sotogrande). <\/strong><\/span>HEADING TO THE CARIBBEAN<\/b><\/p>\n The top five in each category in each tournament qualify for the Grand Final, where the five one-week all-inclusive trips to \u2018La Romana Golf Club Bahia Principe\u2019 in the Dominican Republic will be decided.<\/p>\n The first two classified in each category and the scratch winner of the Grand Final, to be played in September at a course to be determined, will travel to the Caribbean country.
