Carlota Ciganda is getting closer to her great goal: to win a major. Until this weekend the closest she had come to touching the glory of the majors was a fourth place, at the 2015 ANA Inspirarion, and yesterday she managed to climb a step on that Grand Slam Olympus by finishing third at the US Women’s Open. <\/p>\n

The Navarrese finished four strokes behind Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn and Korea’s Hyu Joo Kim, who played for the win in the playoff after Jutanugarn let slip the five-stroke lead she started with.<\/p>\n

The Thai took the win on the fourth hole of the playoff and added her ninth triumph on the American Tour, the LPGA Tour. It was her second major after the 2016 British Open for the 22-year-old, who has become the first Thai to have her name inscribed on the US Open list of winners. <\/p>\n
