Marbella, Mijas, Benahav\u00eds and Estepona are the municipalities with the most golf courses in the province of M\u00e1laga, a sport that can<\/strong> also be practiced<\/strong> in many other enclaves in M\u00e1laga, both on the coast and inland.<\/p>\n

PICASSO’S HOMETOWN<\/h5>\n

The provincial capital, Malaga, birthplace of Pablo Picasso<\/strong> and home to the museum dedicated to the author of Guernica, offers, apart from its beaches and bustling nightlife, an attractive monumental offer<\/strong>, among which the Cathedral and the Alcazaba stand out. In the municipality of Malaga, is the Parador Malaga del Golf (formerly Club de Campo de Malaga), pioneer of the Costa del Sol and one of the oldest in Spain, since it was founded in 1925. <\/p>\n

Its golf facilities include three courses designed by Javier Arana (Guadalamina Sur, Aloha and Rio Real) and two by Robert Trent Jones Sr. (RCG Las Brisas and Marbella Golf). Guadalmina Sur is the pioneer golf course in Marbella (1959) and the second to be built on the Costa del Sol, after the Club de Campo de M\u00e1laga, which dates back to the end of the 1920s. <\/p>\n

Mijas, the destination of golf courses<\/h6>\n

Mijas is the second municipality of M\u00e1laga in volume of golf courses, with thirteen. In the area of Mijas Costa there are important residential urbanizations<\/strong>, among which it is worth mentioning those of Miraflores and Calahonda, two mini-cities with two golf courses. Also noteworthy is La Cala Resort, one of the largest<\/strong> hotel and residential golf complexes in Spain<\/strong> with its three 18-hole courses plus 6 par 3 courses. <\/p>\n

Benahav\u00eds, the beautiful place where Los Arqueros resides in Puerta del Sol<\/h6>\n

Benahav\u00eds is a beautiful mountain village very appreciated, among other things, for its magnificent gastronomy<\/strong>, which can be tasted in one of its numerous catering establishments. Not in vain, the village is known as the “Restaurant of the Coast”. Despite being a small town in inhabitants (about 10,000), this municipality is very large in extension<\/strong> and accommodates eight golf courses -one of them, Los Arqueros, designed by Seve Ballesteros- and a municipal golf school with magnificent facilities<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

\"CostaThe spectacular Villa Padierna resort is located in Benahav\u00eds, with its luxurious hotel and spa and its three golf courses plus the academy directed by Michael Campbell, champion of the 2005 US Open, in which he defeated Tiger Woods himself by two strokes<\/strong>. Benahav\u00eds is the Spanish municipality with the highest number of<\/strong> golf courses per inhabitant.<\/p>\n

Estepona, the golf market of Puerta del Sol<\/h6>\n

Estepona is another town with a wide range of golf courses, with eight courses, including El Para\u00edso, designed by the legendary<\/strong> South African player Gary Player. Atalaya Golf has two courses, the Old Course and the New Course, and Valle Romano was the last course to open in Estepona in 2010. Tradition and modernity are perfectly<\/strong> combined in this small town, with an old town that retains the charm of the Andalusian villages<\/strong>, with its narrow streets, whitewashed houses and balconies full of flowers. One of the focal points of entertainment in the town is its marina, with more than 400 berths and a lively day and night life.<\/strong> <\/p>\n

THE GADITANA COSTA DEL SOL<\/h5>\n

The C\u00e1diz area of the Costa del Sol includes the municipality of San Roque, with its macro-urbanization Sotogrande, where the world famous Valderrama is located<\/strong>, venue of the historic<\/strong> 1997 Ryder Cup<\/strong>, the first European Ryder Cup<\/strong> played outside the British Isles, on continental soil. In the aforementioned urbanization there are other renowned<\/strong> golf courses such as Real Club, San Roque Golf & Resort and La Reserva. <\/p>\n

In the aforementioned municipality are also located Almenara and the first course of the Costa del Sol: La Ca\u00f1ada, whose first nine holes were designed by Robert Trent Jones and the second, by Dave Thomas, former Ryder Cup player and designer of The Belfry along with Peter Allis. Also on the Gibraltar course is La Hacienda Links Golf Resort, with two 18-hole courses: the Links and the Heathland. <\/p>\n

EASTERN COSTA DEL SOL\"Costa<\/h5>\n

In the eastern part of the Costa del Sol, in the Axarquia region, there are two golf courses: A\u00f1oreta and Baviera, both designed by Jos\u00e9 Ca\u00f1izares, two-time World Cup winner<\/strong>. Located in the easternmost part of the province, it is the Malaga region with the largest number of municipalities<\/strong>. The Axarquia is characterized by large natural areas of mountains<\/strong>, hills, slopes, cliffs and extensive beaches, as well as a native gastronomic offer and a magnificent artistic heritage<\/strong>. Its villages are picturesque places that have managed to keep, in a place of light and color, the beauty of its streets and squares, its monuments and popular festivals. <\/p>\n

In the center of the Costa del Sol, golf is also important<\/h5>\n

Golf is also found in the interior of the province of Malaga, as for example in Antequera, a city with a magnificent monumental ensemble as a result of its historical past that is reflected in more than fifty buildings<\/strong> of religious and civil architecture, dating from the Bronze Age to the eighteenth century.<\/p>\n

Many centuries of history contemplate dolmens, collegiate churches, churches, convents, palaces, arches, gates, citadels, chapels, chapels, chapels, manor houses, mansions and even the urban fabric itself.
