Quick recap: Hatton holds on and Legion XIII pulls off a historic double at Valderrama

San Roque, Spain, June 7, 2026. Hatton arrived at Valderrama as a brand-new father and leaves as champion in Spain. The Englishman was +2 on the day through 12 holes and Rahm’s pressure was really starting to bite, but providential birdies at 13, 16 and 17 cut the Basque’s comeback off at the knees and sealed a victory that had eluded him for 18 months.

“Honestly, I thought that no matter how today went, tonight I’d be home, walk in and find a crying newborn, and I’d be on diaper duty,” Hatton said. “That’s going to happen anyway. I can’t wait to get home to Emily and our little girl.”

His Legion XIII teammate gave him reasons not to breathe easy. Rahm signed the best card of the day, a stunning 67 (-4), to finish solo second at -9. It was exactly the golf the Andalusian fans wanted to see on Sunday at Valderrama, and for a few minutes it looked as if the gap between leader and chaser could close completely.

“Obviously I’ve had a fantastic week of my own, and I’m very happy for Tyrrell, who just became a father a little over two weeks ago, has his little girl and is a proud dad,” Rahm said. “As good as he is, if anyone has to beat me, there are very few people I’m happy about, and he’s one of them. He’s earned it the hard way and I’m glad he won and helped the team as well.”

That Hatton-Rahm double at the top of the individual leaderboard was also enough to clinch the team title. Legion XIII closed at -7 and defended the win they secured on this same course in 2025, in a historic comeback from an eight-shot deficit after Saturday. A week of absolute dominance on both fronts that catapults the team up to second place in the season-long team standings.

“It really feels good,” Rahm added. “Obviously this kind of golf course suits our game. Flag hunting is a strength of all of us, and on a course like this, that was exactly what was being asked of you. We clearly did it well.”

Abraham Ancer was the big revelation of the week. The Mexican closed with a 68 (-3) to finish solo third at -8, his best result of the season on the circuit and a clear warning that he is back to a very high level. Behind him, Sergio Garcia signed a final 70 to finish fourth at -7 and put the bow on a complete week at his beloved Valderrama. The Fireballs GC captain now has 18 top-10 finishes in 19 professional starts on this course, a record of consistency at a single venue that has barely any parallel in world sport.

The race for next month’s Open Championship at Royal Birkdale also had its plot twist on Sunday at Valderrama. Thomas Detry, who looked to have the exemption locked up, stumbled with a final 74 and dropped to T5 at -5. That fall gave Joaquin Niemann the breathing room he needed: the Torque GC captain signed the week at +3 and a T24, but kept third place in the season standings behind Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau, which keeps him inside the league’s Major exemption spots. Hatton, meanwhile, climbs to fourth in the individual season race after his victory at Valderrama.

Final standings of the LIV Golf Andalucia 2026

Top individuals

1. I hadn’t won individually in 18 months, and that was definitely something I had in mind. I’m very happy to have done it on as tough a golf course as this one.”

Jon Rahm (Legion XIII): “Obviously I’ve had a fantastic week as well, and I’m very happy for Tyrrell, who just became a father a little over two weeks ago, for having his little girl and for being a proud dad. He’s earned it the hard way and I’m glad he won and helped the team as well. On my end, I can’t ask for much more.”

Caleb Surratt (Legion XIII): “Jon is a great role model, a great mirror to look into and learn from, and he’s certainly set a great example of what it means to be an incredible player in his own country. I hope to be like that someday.”

Jon Rahm (Legion XIII): “I think that when you win here, you really are by far the best player in every single aspect of your game. You can’t hide behind an easier course setup, or easier greens or wider fairways. To win here, you have to have every single club in your bag dialed in. There are no excuses. I think that’s what makes this place so special: the champion here is a true and worthy champion.”

Stats leaders of the week

Fairways hit (%): 66.07 (37/56) — Ben Campbell, RangeGoats GC

Greens in regulation (%): 67.14 (47/70) — Sergio Garcia, Fireballs GC

Average driving distance: 317.5 yards — David Puig, Fireballs GC

Longest drive: 388.2 yards — Thomas Pieters, 4Aces GC

Week wrap-up of the LIV Golf Andalucia 2026

The fourth edition of the LIV Golf Andalucia 2026 has once again made clear why Valderrama is regarded as one of the most demanding and memorable layouts on the international calendar.
