Expectation worldwide for Tiger’s return after 16 months without competition

He has renewed some clubs and reaches up to 310 yards with his driver and 235 with his 3-iron… and to this he adds his new secret weapon: a Bridgestone 330S. “The ball is the most important club in the bag,” says Tiger Woods on the eve of his return to competition after sixteen months of forced retirement due to back problems.

We will see if the long-awaited comeback of the best golfer of the present century meets the great expectations that his return has aroused.

The once undisputed world number one is one of the eighteen participants in the Hero World Challenge, which starts tomorrow in the Bahamas and brings together great figures, including Jordan Spieth, Henrik Stenson, Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson, Zach Johnson, Matt Kuchar and Bubba Watson.

Woods, after his ill-fated comeback announced last October, is now very optimistic and says he sees himself with a good chance of making a great performance: “I’m going to try to do what I’ve always done, try to win: that’s what I came here for”.

“I was killing myself inside because I wanted to compete and I felt I was capable of doing it and fighting for the win, but I’m glad I waited two more months because I was able to train a lot more, try more material and get stronger,” says the Californian, who after his lengthy retirement is now ranked 898th in the world.

At least he does not lack a sense of humor because, when asked about his goals, he answers that “one of my objectives is to finish among the top thousand in the world ranking”.

The countdown has begun and golf fans around the world are waiting expectantly for the return of one of the brightest stars in the history of golf.
