It is difficult to find in Europe a golf resort like La Cala Resort, located in the coastal municipality of Mijas, twenty minutes from Malaga airport and another twenty minutes from Marbella and Puerto Banus. And the fact is that its more than four million square meters of facilities are difficult to match.
he resort’s extensive offer includes three 18-hole courses, a 6-hole course, a golf academy, a regulation-size soccer field, tennis, squash, a fitness room, wellness activities, a running circuit, a 107-room hotel, an exceptional spa and a quality residential offer.
The famous American architect Cabell B. Robinson, disciple of the legendary Robert Trent Jones senior, is the author of the three major layouts of La Cala: America, Asia and Europe.
The fact of having three 18-hole golf courses is undoubtedly one of the assets to attract players to La Cala. “The golfer has here the possibility of enjoying three high quality courses, each with its own personality,” says Noemí Román, the resort’s commercial director. The fact of having 54 holes in three courses of great design and magnificent maintenance makes this club one of the most visited and best valued on the Costa del Sol.
Each course offers the golfer a unique and different challenge, seamlessly integrated into a natural setting of rolling terrain with spectacular scenery in the background, beautiful trees and flowers, a variety of native birds and wildlife.
La Cala Resort is open both to hotel guests, who enjoy very advantageous rates on green fees, and to all types of visitors.
“One of the peculiarities of La Cala,” Román points out, “is that it is a resort very focused on golf, but also on sports in general, since we have a wide variety of sports facilities and personal trainers. The client who comes here not only plays golf or prepares in the academy, but also has the possibility of practicing other sports”.
The fact that it is one of the largest golf resorts in Europe is something its commercial director doesn’t overemphasize. “We have always promoted ourselves as the largest resort,” she says, “but I like to promote it as a different product. Golfers like to come to La Cala Resort because they breathe in the golf atmosphere from the moment they enter the hotel, in the restaurants, in everything…”.
“Also within the resort,” he continues, “even though it’s large, you don’t need transportation because all the facilities are very well connected. That golf atmosphere and the convenience of having all the facilities and services close at hand contribute to our success.
The golfer’s comfort on the course is another asset in favor of La Cala Resort. “We have an annual average of 300 golfers a day for the three courses, with peaks of 500 and 600, and we do not want to exceed this volume of occupation because the important thing is to provide good customer service,” explains the resort’s commercial director.

“Our advantage as a resort,” he continues, “is that golfers can play three different, high-quality courses during their stay at the hotel. In fact, one of our star products is the Three Courses Pass, both for guests staying at our hotel for several days and for those staying at other hotels or residing in or visiting this area.

-Unlike other golf courses, at La Cala the real estate developments are not at all invasive for the development of the game…
-Indeed, here we have done very good real estate planning so that the homes blend harmoniously into the resort and do not inconvenience golfers at any time. All of La Cala Resort’s real estate products are very successful because our philosophy has always been not to overbuild, but to build according to the buyers’ demands. It is very high quality construction, very sustainable and integrates perfectly into the landscape and golf course environment. We are associated with Taylor Wimpey and that is also a guarantee of quality and seriousness. Right now we have the Horizon Golf complex, which we have just launched and they are two and three-bedroom apartments, penthouses and townhouses. They are under construction and will be delivered next year.
Summer camps
Apart from the courses and classes that take place throughout the year, La Cala Resort organizes for July and August summer camps for children whose aim is to promote the practice of this sport in a fun and entertaining way. The camps are held at the Golf Academy for five days and both children staying at the hotel and visitors can register. Last year around 100 children participated. The children do not need to bring clubs, as La Cala Resort provides them with everything they need. After the lessons they are served lunch in the clubhouse. “We make it all a lot of fun so that the child gets started with a lot of enthusiasm for golf,” says Noemí Román.
