Sergio García turns 37 today (9 January) with some happy news on the horizon. He has decided to end his bachelorhood in 2017 and marry later this year, although without revealing the date. The Castellón-born golfer, winner of 29 titles around the world, announced in a Tweet message that he and his fiancée, journalist Angela Akins (31), would be tying the knot. “Some very exciting news for us!” he wrote. “We are getting married this year! Thrilled to see what the future brings us!”

García’s future wife has been working for Golf Channel since 2015 as a reporter for evening news programme Golf Central and as an interviewer for its US PGA Tour coverage. A graduate in journalism from the University of Texas, she was a member of the Longhorn women’s golf team.

García's previous girlfriends have included tennis star Martina Hingis in 2019, Greg Norman’s daughter Lein and German Katharina Boehm, with whom he was rumoured to be planning to marry in 2014.
