The last two events of the Gecko Tour produced champions from vastly different spectrums of the golfing world. Marcos Pastor is a tour stalwart, having topped the rankings last year, and he is now back to winning form following his victory at La Cañada – the 19th tournament of the 2016-17 season.
The Córdoba golfer’s excellent total of 131 in 36 holes gave him a five-shot win over second-placed Swedes Frederik From and Andreas Andersson, with Mads Vibe-Hastrup and Matthew Baldwin tied for fourth.
Later that same week, 17-year-old Danish amateur Anders Emil Anders Emil Ejlersen won on Acaidesa’s Heathland course, beating runner-up (and leading pro) William Nygard by two shots. Only two other players were able to break par after two rounds, joint third-placed Daniel Holland and current order of merit leader Andersson.
Ejlersen hopes one day to turn professional but for the moment his objective is to study and train in the United States.
