Like most couples, Rory McIlroy and Erica Stoll are keen to keep details of their wedding this weekend in Ireland as secret as possible. Of course, that’s not easy when The Sun is on the prowl. According to the sensationalist newspaper, Cold Play are “heavily rumoured” to have been booked to play at the reception.
The Sun quoted an “insider” as saying, “They are trying to keep the big day as private as they can, even with all the A-listers invited. The rumour is that Coldplay are performing as they are one of Rory’s favourite bands. Rory has said he’ll spare no expense on the big day, and he loves the band so we’ll see.”
Continued the newspaper, “The pair are due to tie the knot in Cong, a traditional Irish village famous for being the set of the John Wayne movie ‘The Quiet Man’. The five-star Ashford Castle last year was voted the number one resort in Great Britain and Ireland by travel and leisure voters in the World’s Best Awards, and came in at number two in Ireland for TripAdvisor readers.”
As for the couple themselves, The Sun reported, “McIlroy, 27, met Stoll while he was dating tennis star Caroline Wozniacki in 2012. The 29-year-old New Yorker was working for the Professional Golfers’ Association of America and is credited for saving him from Ryder Cup disqualification that year when he was running late. She managed to get him a police escort to the course and they became friends, dating shortly after his split with Wozniacki.
“His relationship with Wozniacki lasted from 2011 to 2014 before McIlroy broke it off after the wedding invites had been sent and just before the start of that year’s BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.”
