Almenara, the 27-hole course in Sotogrande designed by Dave Thomas and recently renovated by Manuel Piñero, has made its debut on the Andalucía Golf Challenge Circuit. This is the 12th year of the annual circuit, which offers the main prize of five week-long trips to the Dominican Republic. The combination of nine-hole layouts played on this occasion was Pinos and Alcornoques, both of which were in excellent condition. There was some wind during the day, but players were able to enjoy pleasant temperatures.

Emanuele Canziani won category one (with 35 points), followed by Theo Fischer (35) and Georges D’Anthes (35). In category two, the top three finishers were Jesús Porro Molina (39 points), Flavio Cassina (37) and Giulio Riva (34). Scratch winner Nicolas Meixner totalled 30 points. The winners of special prizes for longest drive (men and women) and nearest to the pin received cases of D.O. Somontano wine, balls and MyHedgeFund.club caps.
The first and second category and scratch winners, who qualified directly for the grand final, were also presented with two paintings by renowned artist Alejandro Hermann. In addition, a special gifts raffle included a CaddyTalk Minimi Rangefinder – a small-sized, high-precision and image-quality laser measurement device – which went to Elías Samuel del Pino Fernández, and three paintings by Alejandro Hermann.
The Almenara tournament was the ninth of 30 tournaments scheduled to be held during the 12th edition of this hugely popular open amateur circuit, organised by Andalucía Golf/España Golf magazine. From February to September, the Circuit will cover the Andalucian provinces of Málaga, Cádiz, Huelva, Almería, Sevilla and Granada, in addition to Madrid, Salamanca and Segovia, with most of the events being held on the Costa del Sol.
The Circuit’s grand finale, which will decide the five winners of trips to the Dominican Caribbean, will be held at La Hacienda Alcaidesa Links Golf Resort on 24 September, followed by a gala dinner.
Access to the final will be direct for the winners of each category and the leading scratch player in all the qualifying tournaments, while the rest of the places in the final will be awarded based on the Benahavís Ranking, calculated from points obtained in each leg.
The Circuit is sponsored by ThirdHome.com, MyHedgeFund.club, Turismo Costa del Sol, Benahavís Town Hall, Sanitas, PGA Ocean’s 4 Bahía Príncipe, Bahía Príncipe Golf and Bahía Príncipe Hotels & Resorts, and the main collaborators are D.O. Somontano, Holiday Golf Estates and Fairway+blue. Cadena SER and Andalucía Golf/España Golf magazine are the Circuit's official media outlets.
The next event will be on 26 June at La Reserva.
