Maria Parra from Cadiz, new player of the American Tour 2017

In an outstanding way and coinciding with her 19th birthday, the Andalusian Maria Parra has joined this Sunday the select group of Spanish players who play the American women’s circuit, the LPGA, and has done so by overcoming the demanding final of the qualifying school just a few months after making the leap to professionalism.

In Daytona Beach, Florida, the Cadiz player from Guadiaro, cradle of great golfers, signed a sensational week that ended with an eleventh place, with -7. The top 20 obtained the card of the LPGA Tour 2017. Her rounds of 76, 71, 67, 67, 68 and 71 showed an evolution that allowed her to overcome a hesitant start.

With this achievement, the player trained at the Blume National School joins a Spanish fleet integrated in 2016 by Carlota Ciganda, Azahara Muñoz, Beatriz Recari and Belén Mozo. Less successful was Marta Sanz, the other Spaniard in the final, who fell three strokes short of making the cut at the end of the fourth day.

Maria Parra started the year as an amateur and won the Andalucia Cup and the Portugal International in January. Then came a sixth place in the European Individual Championship to end a brilliant stage as an amateur player that has included individual successes and with the National Teams.

At the professional level, she has won two titles in the LET Access Series, the Halmstad Ladies Open and the Drøbak Ladies Open, a preamble to the enormous achievement that awaited her in the United States.
