Royal Valderrama Provides Stunning Setting for Fourth Leg of Andalucía Golf Challenge “Destination La Romana Golf Club Bahía Principe” Circuit

Once again Royal Valderrama Club received unanimous praise from participants in the fourth leg of this year’s Andalucía Golf Challenge “Destination La Romana Golf Club Bahía Principe” Circuit.

Designed by legendary American golf course architect Robert Trent Jones, the layout impressed all those taking part, even if not everyone ultimately were able to enjoy the results they expected – or earnestly desired. The course was in magnificent condition, and a light breeze helped ease the summer heat, ensuring an excellent day of golf that – for various reasons – provided lasting memories for participants.

Organised by Andalucía Golf/España Golf, the tournament attracted golfers from Huelva, Almería, Sevilla, Córdoba and Málaga, as well as Sweden Denmark, the UK, Italy and Switzerland.

In addition to prizes awarded in each tournament (top-brand apparel from the Fairway and Blue boutique in Puerto Banús, D.O. Somontano wines, golfing equipment, etc.), the five leading players in each category earn a place in the circuit’s grand final, to be held at Royal Guadalmina Golf Club (South Course) on 30 September and deciding the winners of five trips to the Dominican Republic. The prizes include flights, hotel (Bahia Principe) and four days of golf: two at La Romana Golf Club, one at Punta Espada (Cap Cana) and another at Diente de Perro (Casa de Campo).

The top finishers at Royal Valderrama in category one were, in order (and winning a place in the Royal Guadalmina event): Juan Manuel García Vega (36 points), Clive Tyler (35), Alberto Jiménez Menéndez (35), Alejandro Martinez Arasso (34) and Thomas Johanson (32).

In category two, the five players advancing to the grand final were: Antonio José Ramirez (42 points), Juan Manuel Araujo (39), José Cruz Pérez (39), Antonio Capasso (36) and Pablo López Cascajo (35).

As for the special prizes, closest to the pin on the third hole was secured by Daniel Kunz; and longest driver on the seventh went to Felisa Maldonado and Don Gustafson, for the men and women, respectively.

The scratch winner was Clive Tyler, who was presented with a magnificent painting by renowned Marbella-based artist Alejandro Hermann.

The day concluded with a cocktail reception and prize-giving ceremony on Royal Valderrama’s superb clubhouse terrace.

Forthcoming events on the Andalucía Golf Challenge “Destination La Romana Golf Club Bahía Principe” Circuit are: 28 July at La Reserva de Sotogrande; 18 August at Los Flamingos (Villa Padierna); 25 August at Valle Romano (Estepona); and 15 September at San Roque Club.
