The 19th edition of the Pro-Am Costa del Golf-Turismo was held at Añoreta under sun-kissed azure skies in the picturesque eastern part of the Costa del Sol. The aim of the event – which this year brought together 100 players competing in 25 teams – is to foster close relationships among the Coast’s 70-plus golf clubs, as well as other industry professionals.

The 2017 pro-am was organised by Turismo Costa del Sol (the province’s official tourist promotion body) and co-sponsored by Turismo Andaluz and the Royal Andalucian Golf Federation, with collaborators including Holiday & Golf Estates and Riversa.

After the golf competition and aperitifs on the clubhouse lawn, participants and other guests adjourned to the dining room for an excellent lunch and the prize presentation, followed by live music by the group IPOD+After Work.

The presentation was presided over by Arturo Bernal, general manager of Turismo Costa del Sol, Pablo Mansilla, president of the Royal Andalucian Golf Federation, and Rincon de la Victoria mayor Francis Salado.

El Chaparral won the main club competition, followed by Torrequebrada and Cabopino.

Every year, coinciding with the tournament, a leading figure on the “Costa del Golf” (either in the sporting sphere or promotion of the destination) is honoured with an official tribute. This year, that honour went to Marbella-born Ladies European Tour and US LPGA star Azahara Muñóz, who couldn’t be present (she was competing in Arkansas) but sent a video message and said she hoped to be able to receive the award in person at the Spanish Women’s Open at Royal Guadalmina from 21 to 24 September.
