The magnificent Royal Sotogrande Golf Club course hosted another resoundingly successful summer leg of the Andalucía Golf Challenge. This seventh annual edition of the popular open amateur circuit is being held at the Costa del Sol’s finest courses, and few come with a better pedigree than Royal Sotogrande, designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones.

Those teeing up this week represented a diverse range of nationalities, mainly Spaniards, all of whom expressed fulsome praise for the superb design and condition of the course – considered one of the best in Europe – and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge.

The prize-giving and cocktail reception was held on the club’s upper terrace, with stunning views over the golf course and Mediterranean, and was presided over by Andalucía Golf/España Golf publisher Antonio Sánchez, Royal Sotogrande general manager Agustín Mazarrasa, and Gabriela Johne, director of the Puerto Banús golf attire and footwear boutique Fairway+Blue.

Earlier out on the course, Christer Erikisson tallied 39 points to lead the way in category one, followed by José Antonio Rigaud Moreno (38) and Juan García de las Heras (37).

The category two winner was Jan Policki (41), with Enric Meier Roig (34) second and Antonio Zarco Martínez (33) third.

Winner of the scratch prize was Pedro Miguel Cervey Mendoza, who took home a wonderful painting by renowned Marbella-based artist Alejandro Hermann.

The prize for closest ball to the pin went to Pedro Miguel Cevey, and for longest drives (female and male), Lina López Martín and Azim Adatia.

This year’s Andalucía Golf Challenge coincides with Andalucía Golf/España Golf’s 30th anniversary as Spain’s longest-running bilingual golf magazine.
