The fifth leg of the popular Andalucía Golf Challenge circuit was held at Villa Padierna Golf Club’s picturesque Flamingos course. More than 100 players teed off in the competition on a great day for golf: moderate summer temperature, not too hot, a light breeze cooling the air, and participants prepared to give their all on a course in magnificent condition.

Following the golf – highlighted by some excellent play – everyone was able to enjoy two delicious paellas in the gardens of La Cantina (the Villa Padierna clubhouse), where the prize-giving ceremony was also held. Officially presenting the trophies were Andalucía Golf publisher Antonio Sánchez accompanied by Gabriela Johne, director of the Puerto Banús golf attire and footwear boutique Fairway+Blue (main sponsor of the tournament), and Nicolás Gil from Villa Padierna Golf Club.

As for the results… the winner of the closest to the pin prize was Pedro Miguel Cevey, and the longest drives, Lynos Ayling (women) and Joaquín Navarrete Sorela (men).

The leading player in category two was Jake Macintyre (44 points), with Esteban Ferrón second (also 44 but with a higher handicap) and third Araceli Puga García (40 points).

The winner of category one (for those with a handicap up to 14.4) was Jorge González Jacob (41 points), followed by Santiago Gutierrez Duque and Alfonso Villalonga García (both with 38 points but the former finishing runner-up thanks to a lower handicap).

The scratch prize went to Jonathon Calister, who won the star prize of the day, a painting by top Marbella-based artist Alejandro Hermann.

This year’s Andalucía Golf Challenge coincides with Andalucía Golf/España Golf’s 30th anniversary as Spain’s longest-running bilingual golf magazine.

The sixth and final tournament of the 2017 summer schedule will be held at Finca Cortesín on Saturday 2 September. Reservations and information: Tel. 952 937 883, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
