One of Marbella’s classic annual events, the 38th edition of the Miguel Ángel Jiménez Pro-Am-Andrés Jiménez Memorial was held at Aloha Golf in September.

As has become customary, the tournament was a resounding success, with 46 teams of four players taking part, each headed by one of the area’s top pros. Miguel Ángel Jiménez himself was present, as he has been every year. “Aloha Golf hugely appreciates that,” said general manager Juan Álvarez. “It’s a great honour for us that Miguel Ángel Jiménez supports this magnificent pro-am, which is the oldest held in Spain, 38 consecutive years, making it a real standard-bearer.”

After the intensive renovation carried out at the club in recent months, the course was in immaculate condition, a view shared by all the players, both professionals and amateurs. “That’s what they told us,” said Álvarez. “Praise for the state of the course, after several months of renovations, was widespread.”

The pro-am raised €1,000 for charity, on this occasion Proyecto Hombre. “That’s something we have always been committed to at Aloha, and we are very proud of that. Our aim has always been to ensure that the event has an impact on people in need – that it contributes in a small way to resolving social problems in our area. And we will continue with that commitment.”

Spectacular Results

Among the top professionals competing in the Andrés Jiménez memorial event, in addition to Miguel Ángel Jiménez, were Juan Quirós, Diego Morito, Gabriel Cañizares, Victor Casado, Manuel Quirós, Rod Bastard, etc.

Miguel Ángel Jiménez won the top individual prize after rounds of 71 and 67, for a six-under total that was equalled by Richard Tinwort. “The level of play was very high,” said Juan Álvarez, “with 12 players under par after two days of play.”

In the team competition, Rafael López led his playing companions to first place, followed by the teams led by Manuel Quirós and Juan Carlos Osorio as joint runners-up.

“What satisfies us most about the pro-am,” said Álvarez, “is the support it receives. Also, this year, how well we were able to present the course, with special thanks to greenkeeper Ángel Chacón who, as always, made a great effort to ensure the tournament was a success.

“Aloha is delighted to host events like this and we are putting all our efforts into improving the course in order to be able to offer our members the best we can: in addition to a great playing layout, also a wonderful social life. Our members and visitors really appreciate the major improvements we made to the course last summer: changes to the irrigation system, the new tee platforms, improvements to the greens and the rough, etc. We have established the foundations of what Aloha has always been and what we want it to be in the future: one of Spain’s pacesetting clubs.”
