Eduardo Ruiz Méndez has been the new director of golf at La Manga Club, the award-winning resort located in the region of Murcia, since April.
With a long track record in the best golf clubs in Spain behind him, Eduardo has previously held the position of Director of Operations at Real Club Valderrama, La Quinta Golf and Finca Cortesín.
Ruiz has several projects in mind for the short and medium term, and among his aspirations is to position the South course among the 10 best courses in Europe and maintain its status as the best golf resort on the old continent.
“I have blind faith in the project, we want to position our courses among the best courses in Europe and in particular the South Course due to its characteristics and it will undoubtedly be a beautiful challenge. We are fortunate to have an extraordinary design and a highly qualified staff to achieve our goal,” explains Ruiz.
La Manga Club has a par 47 designed by Severiano Ballesteros, in addition to three 18-hole courses, the North, South and West courses, which have hosted a long list of tournaments in its more than forty-year history, including five Spanish Opens and a good number of top-level amateur events.
The South course was conceived to host major professional tournaments and each of its holes represents a challenge for the player. It is one of the few courses that forces you to play all the clubs in the bag. The North course is a more technically accessible course for players of any level. The West course requires the best of each player, since on each tee shot, the player must place the ball in the right spot to have options on the second shot.
But La Manga Club is not only a legend. Last September the resort inaugurated one of the largest golf practice centers in Europe and David Leadbetter’s golf academy.
Now, with the incorporation of Ruiz, the resort intends to continue building history and in fact, awards such as those received during 2014 as “Best Golf Hotel” by the World Travel Awards, or “Best Golf Course in Spain” (Campo Sur) by Todays Golfer magazine corroborate this.
La Manga Club is a spectacular complex located 15 minutes from Cartagena, covering an area of 560 hectares, three times the size of the Principality of Monaco.
Its facilities include a 5* hotel, luxury apartments, 3 golf courses, 28 tennis courts, 8 soccer fields, as well as a 2,000 square meter spa and more than 15 restaurants and bars.
