Aaron Wise has been elected Rookie of the Year of the American Tour. The American received the majority of the votes cast by PGA Tour players for the 2017-2018 season. Wise was one of five candidates eligible for the award of being the best rookie on Tour.
The 22-year-old winner has had a great season, including a win, at the AT&T Byron Nelson.
Wise, a native of Cape Town, South Africa, but a naturalized U.S. citizen, had an outstanding amateur career, winning the NCAA championship as a member of the University of Oregon, and as a professional he participated in 29 tournaments in the previous season in the best circuit in the world, winning a title, four top tens and a qualification for the TOUR Championship.
Aaron, currently 52nd in the world rankings, has become the fifth youngest player to be named Rookie of the Year, behind only Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth, Sergio Garcia and Si Woo Kim.
“For Aaron to have won on the PGA Tour, Web.com and Mackenzie Tour (Canada) before his 22nd birthday is a great accomplishment, and to qualify for the finals as a rookie shows that there is no stage too big for him,” said Jay Monahan, commissioner of the PGA Tour.
