We have reached the summer season with good data on water reserves. However, it is important to remember the importance of making a responsible use of water consumption. The public water company of the Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental, Acosol, manages the integral water cycle, meaning all the processes from water collection to its return to nature.
In addition, it maintains more than 200 kilometers of main and secondary supply pipelines that carry water to private homes and to the general reservoirs of urbanizations or municipalities, from where other companies are in charge of distributing it to the residents.
This large network of pipes has two branches: the East, which goes from the reservoir of La Concepción, in Istán, to Torremolinos; and the West, which starts from the same point to Manilva. On the other hand, the public water company dependent on the Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental is in charge of the cleaning and conservation of 134 reservoirs and 100 pumping stations.
Acosol is also heavily committed to the use of irrigated water to irrigate golf courses and other facilities such as parks and green areas. In addition, it continues to search for new alternatives for the consumption of reclaimed water, such as its use in the manufacture of concrete or for compacting the bases of roads or dirt tracks.
Now that summer begins, many visitors and tourists take the opportunity to enjoy the magic of the municipalities of the Western Costa del Sol, and to practice one of the most popular sports in the area, golf. From Acosol, we are committed to the irrigation of golf courses with recycled water, as one of our maxims is respect for the environment.
Average of 300,000 cubic meters for each golf course
The annual water supply provided by Acosol is around 300,000 cubic meters for each of the golf courses, an amount that means about 2,500 cubic meters per day in the case of the 18-hole courses. Taking into account the weather conditions and the time of the year, since from October to March, depending on how the rainfall responds, they are more likely to be supplied by rain or with their own resources.
And is that the public company takes into account that the golf segment plays a fundamental and essential role in the deseasonalization of the tourist destination, a key piece of the socio-economic engine of the area, hence the importance that Acosol gives to support the work developed by the golf courses on the Costa del Sol West.
Savings-awareness
Awareness of water saving is essential in this matter and it is only necessary to follow a few simple steps:
-Filling the dishwasher and washing machine to the optimum load saves up to 40 liters of water per wash.
-Closing taps properly after use, since a single dripping tap can waste more than 90 liters of water per week.
Taking a daily five-minute shower instead of a bath makes it possible to save up to 400 liters of water per week.
-Watering early or late in the day, but not too much, as this reduces evaporation loss.
